I can't remember if it is possible to still get the code somehow if you have only one Apple device in your household. If you have two factor authorization enabled.

Yes, to activate 2fa you need to give them your phone number (so you most likely did) and you can also give a few numbers of friends & family for backup. If you don’t have another Apple device, you can receive a text message or a call.
