Hello. When I was checking new features on my iPhone X i found something that may freeze your iphone.
If you want to check it out on your device follow these steps:
1. Go to settings
2. Accesibilty
3. General
4. Guided access

And if you'll go to any app (I tested it on app called "Pepper") and triple click the power button your iPhone will not work properly. Yay! The only thing that will react to your finger is the bar. To fix this you need to click (not hold!) volume up and then volume down button and then hold (yes, now hold) power button. After you reboot your device your SIM card might not work. I tried to put it out and then put it in again, but that didn't work. You have press your sim card tray (with card inserted) to the pins inside. But maybe that's just my device.

Sounds like you are enabling Guided Access mode: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202612
