I have numerous photos on an external mac hard drive... I've been happily copying them there for months now...

Today, I needed to take some of these off and transfer them directly to the hard disk side of my iPod.

I dragged the photos I needed, but when hovering over the iPod, and next I discovered, hovering over anywhere (desktop/Mac boot drive etc). My cursor changed to a 'no entry' ie, not allowed symbol.

It boils down to... the system won't let me copy anything off this drive... very odd. I launched Toast, and while I can drag files into it's window to burn to CD, if I choose to use the 'open' dialog in toast to add files, these files are 'grey' in the dialog and won't select for adding to the burn list.

I've checked securities and ownership... they all have my account and r/w settings...

I'm at a loss! Anyone have any thoughts?

(Paranoia kicked in before I left for work... maybe 10.4.3 (just installed) has messed something up, or purposely chosen to do this...)

Thanks!

Gary

I'll try the permissions repair when I get home as I'll need the OSDVD (and I'm working on my mac from work via VNC at the moment)... I've tried a verify on the external drive, and that was fine.

iPod wasn't plugged in while the update was applied... but then I can't seem to copy files anywhere from the external drive. Really odd... the main mac volume appears fine, can copy files of any type or size, anywhere... different story on the external.

try doing a get info on the disk and see who has ownership of it... and try to change it to you... and also see if you can make a folder to drop the files in.. and manually drop in each file in the folder.... dont know if that well help but good luck.

It works!

The permissions rebuild was right on the button... though, I could only fix permissions on the main mac volume, not the external...

After a reboot, we're back to normal..yay..

Thanks!
