iPod I get a static-y sound on my iTunes even when I make a new list for my songs.

I also don't have the original earbuds because they never fit in my ears. Changing the genre helps sometimes, but not all the time. My recently purchased iTunes songs as of the last month or so are perfectly fine because I recently bought them on this MBP.

Is there some sort of hidden setting that I haven't found yet that would fix the sound. Would it help if the genre was all the same?

Sounds more like a bad connection with your headphones. Or dust in the headphone jack. Try another pair or two and see if there is a difference. If no difference, it's probably the jack itself.
