The World Inbetween
Hey guys, the University gave me a book voucher, the government pays for all my essential textbooks so really this will be used to pay for my personal studies.

I was thinking of getting that Cocoa Design Patterns book
http://www.amazon.com/Cocoa-Design-Patterns-Erik-Buck/dp/0321535022/ref=bxgy_cc_b_img_b

But I particularily want to learn Quartz (One thats in Obj-C and suitable for Leopard unlike some of them)
http://www.amazon.com/Real-Time-Mot...=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1269416315&sr=1-3 - This one looks like what I want but its not released yet.

So I can leverage it to make 2D games. As far as I know the Cocoa design patterns book has some stuff on Quartz. What would your opinion would be better? (I've already looked on mroogle!)

I would probably get both eventually but Im a student with no money. My overall goal is to make a sidescrolling game/s (and other little things for work) my design partner and I designed.

Quartz composer (what your book is about) is a very different thing than the Quartz frameworks (the thing you're trying to learn).

I know, but any books which I can find (In NZ) purely on the framework are either outdated (As in they dont even compile on leopard outdated) or written using C++ and carbon, according to most reviews. (and I don't know C++)

I guess what Im really looking for is an up to date version of this book:
http://www.amazon.com/Quartz-2D-Gra...=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1269463220&sr=1-5

I've tried going onto tutorials and thorugh Apple's docs but I just prefer a book. It's easier for me to understand new concepts with the explanation the authors provide.

---

I might just get the Design Patterns book, and see what Quartz Books pop up in the future.
