Well I took my iMac in for freezing a few weeks ago (before there was an update).

My old mac was a week 34 my new mac is a week 46.

1. I would like to say that the freezing is now completely gone and I did not have to install an update.

2. My old screen was kinda yellow on the right side. (The yellowing gradient problem). My new iMac is Perfect! the screen looks awesome!

3. My new mac mac came with what looked like 3 dead pixels. I took the class off with a little suction cup, and there was dust on the lcd panel under the glass...

I wiped the dust off, and now I have a perfect iMac!

Nice one. Im expecting my mac 24" to arrive very soon now, so im hoping for a perfect imac also :)

I dont like the fact that dust can clutter up behind the front glass, sounds a bit "cheap" to me, but i guess we have to live with it.

But, it wont hold back my big expectations, im still (again) looking very much forward to recieve my own piece of art.

Same story with me regarding the gradient. AND I had what I thought was a pixel issue with the new one (it was dust). All is well. :D

How do you tell what week it was manufactured?

I am glad for you. Maybe Apple sorted the gradient issue. I received my gradient ridden machine last friday. Have you tried the test pictures that were posted here? I would love the prospect of getting a spotless Imac replacement. Did you buy locally or bto?
Once again, congratulations to you:)

I delivered my iMac into the store on Nov 5th as tech support advised to fix the backlight bleeding and gradient problem. After a lot of calls with the store and customer support it turned out the store didn't even bother to look at my machine for about 10 days. I discovered today that on the 16th they ordered a new replacement screen from Apple. Of course I understand that they probably look after people who bought machines from their store first, but they did tell me that it would take between 1 to 2 weeks, and the store in Oslo I believe has been pretty sloppy in my case.

After being really depressed about losing my computer for so long and having to use a crappy old PC I got back onto Customer Support. I have to say that each time I have called them they have been great. My iMac's case history has been logged from when I first called about the poor screen. They told me to go back to the store, pick up my machine and then they would send someone round to pick it up. They are also going to replace my iMac with a brand new one.

I cannot fault Apple's customer service, they are even going to start the warrenty from when I receive my new machine. I'm just sad that I was unlucky to get sent one of the faulty ones. I'm just dreading having the same problem when I receive the new one, or there are 4 dead pixels or something. Hopefully it will be alright. Other than that the 24" iMac is a beauty. Now I just have to wait another 1-2 weeks for delivery of my new machine.

Apple probably applied the firmware update for you before you received it back. Check to see if your EFI version is XX.XX.219.

The real question is, did you break any panel pins?
:D

No pins broken.

EFI Driver Version: 01.00.212

Just checked software update and there are no additional updates.

Kinda makes me believe the new iMacs are using a slightly different GPU...

And how DO you suss out the manufacture week/build of your Mac?. I dont think that was answered?. D'oh!.

It is in your serial number:

W8746XXXXXXX (7 being the year, 2007)

Maybe so. It would be a very recent change, however.
I own a W7744 24in Imac. I received the VGA EFI Update and a faulty screen.
It´s going back. I will be insisting on a new machine. I paid the equivalent of 3400 USD straight into Apple´s pockets and I want my money´s worth.

Take care,
ceres

Thanks for that WhaleRider

My one was VM744******

So thatd've been 44th week 2007 which it seems was a bad week for Macs(!)

Just as well I returned it after TNT had chucked it about their van and bashed the box and cracked the internal polystyrene.

I wonder when its `safe' to look at the Serial numbers again?.

`Sorry `bout that :)

Damned keys slipped again!

I was so chuffed at your helpful comments - I had to `honour' you with a more `macho' sounding title!

Better than mine .. after a Bruce Forsyth's Generation Game TV catchphrase

(This will mean nothing to anyone other than UK readers)

Anyway - enough of my flippancy ... back to the original thread ...

What was it again?.

I tested the iMac and it is worlds better than my old iMac... Can't even compare.

Even my family members noticed the difference and they are not half as picky as me.

I am so glad my computer was a freezer, b/c now I have a computer I am 100% satisfied with!

Well update. My new update says:
Shanghai Consignment Received At Transit Point
This means that TNT are picking it up in Nottingham, UK and delivering it to me allegedly next Wednesday .. maybe.
I am hoping this is a later machine than the first one sent me and it has the new Preinstalled Leopard sticker now showing in our local PC World stores.

I just hope the couriers lay off the box this time and let it get here without being involved in a fight in the back of the van with the other boxes.:p

These couriers think because it says Apple on the box.. thats whats in it so they bung it around like a fruit lorry!. Hmmm... anyway .. glad yer happy ... and I hope to reflect similar sentiments too next week .. a MONTH after I first ordered my 24" iMac.
