I had emailed the developer by the username of 'ayasin' on Tuesday, asking him to check out a competing App that was MUCH cheaper. He never responded.
Today, another user posted a message about his product being way too high for the features. http://www.pdascent.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=104

So, I posted a copy of my message:
I'm sorry, but as my PM to you a few days ago, One App does MUCH more with the exception of Syncing (which should be within the next month) for a LOT less.

HERE IS THE COPY OF THE PM WHICH I RECEIVED NO RESPONSE ON SO I AM POSTING HERE.

You have a great App. However, you should spend the $3.99 and see one Apps that your competition has.
It is a GREAT app. They lack syncing at this time but state that they will have it as soon as Apple allows Push.
The only other drawback is that you have to manually type in your lists.
Advantages:
1. Price, Price, Price
2. Store LIsts
3. Group Items
And there are many other configurable items including the Settings under Settings/ShoppingLIst/General, Shopping, and Archive Synch
It would really be worth your time and money to check this one out.

I haven't got to the store with her App yet, but it supposedly memorizes the items by the order of aisle check-offs that you do also.

I received the following:

Please don't post about competing products on our forums. I will grant you that the shopping app you mentioned does a couple of things we don't, but we're adding most of those things and syncing is a MAJOR feature which takes a while to implement. There's no way to know for sure what she'll be providing.

I believe he was being nice. Also interesting.

My BAD. And I understand.

P.S. - I did spend the price on both products.

That is all well and good but (might be a bit of a dumb question) what is the point of this post? The take home message?

I believe the point is: Be careful what you say. Even to try and help someone. A PM to the person questioning would have been much better.

I guess that the Forums can be really one-sided on certain items. Even when not against posted rules.

I really like this forum, but if I talk about something like how Microsoft has been running an OS with 3rd party Apps, and 3rd party Hardware for years without near the problems Apple is having with the iPhone Software/Firmware running just 3rd party Apps...... Well, I would get bashed.

But I do love my iPhone.

Now watch this post. Anyway, I apologize in advance.

LOL, whatever happened to Spymac? I used to frequent that place often. Is it even a Mac-centric site now?

If that's their policy, then I would avoid spending any time on their forum.

If your product is good, you should welcome other people talking about other products because it gives you an opportunity to say why yours is better...unless of course you fear the competition because it's not.

Wait, you go to a developer's site and start telling his registered users about a cheaper competitor's app and he yanks your post and you claim you understand why but you still bother to make a long post about it here, using caps and bolds and lots of quotes, and I actually bothered to read it and write this reply??? I want my 60kb back.

I know, I know.

A moderator can delete this thread, and I won't complain. It was a bad thread, now that I think about it.

Course Apple makes up for it with their computers not having near the problems that Microsoft has and probably always will. :)

Anyway, I'm sure the developers are aware of the competitive application. They can change the price anytime they want to, but they chose not to most likely because they have a really good reason. Don't underestimate the developers ;).
