My iPhone stopped charging and randomly was rebooting and I got it replaced.

The replacement from Apple came with 7.0.4 and of course the apple tech almost clicked update before I told him not to touch it.

Anyways is it ok to Jb on 7.0.4. I know there was a security issue thing, but I really want my JB back and I never use public networks. What do you guys suggest?

Im in the exact same boat but mine is 7.0.3.

Whats the diff between 7.0.3 and 4?

Well, they closed the signing window for 7.0.6 so you're stuck where you are if you want to JB

Yes, it's fine to jailbreak 7.0.4. Just make sure you install SSLPatch!

If you want to jailbreak, staying on 7.0.4 is your only option

right, that's why ryan petrich, the guy who made the ssl patch, still recommends updating to 7.0.6

It's also why doctors operate with high insurance coverage. He's just covering his own ass.

That's if you're not in an app that's running as root or not in safe mode

Pretty sure only if running in safe mode. Honestly, how often are you in safe mode, but to remove an unstable tweak? You have a higher chance of using an unencrypted public wifi network and having information stolen, than this.

Where'd you pull that out of?

If you install the patch, and the SSL website test works, then the patch works the same as 7.0.6. It's not rocket science.

relax it works fine. it just won't work on safe mode because mobile substrate tweaks don't load. but who is on safe mode all the time?

Apps running in root don't allow mobilesubstrate to inject tweaks in them. I'm not saying the SSLPatch doesn't work, just saying it doesn't cover you 100%

Examples of these (tweaks that can't inject into root apps) can be showcase or swipeselection

Personally, I think the only threat would be when purchasing tweaks/apps in cydia

I agree, but that's assuming that was the only change in 7.0.6

It's not just Safe Mode. It won't work in any apps run as root, such as iFile and Cydia. iFile isn't a really big deal, but purchases are made through Cydia...

The SSL patch works fine if you don't spend any time in Safe Mode (other than respringing back to normal) and you don't do too much public wifi purchasing from Cydia. Keep in mind it's still possible to be a victim of a MITM attack even on a private network though... updating to 7.0.6 was the only way to 100% protect yourself. The SSL patch is pretty damn good though if you're stuck below that.

Ughhh keep a 7.0.6 5S with a slightly weak lock button.

OR

a 5S on 7.0.3 with no issues.

Ones gotta be sent back tho

Which one???

Becareful with the SSL patch. I had a soft brick after I installed it on my ipad. Luckily I was able to restore to 7.0.6.

I'm pretty sure not all tweaks require mobilesubstrate. Before it was updated for iOS 7 and the 64bit A7, some packages downloaded from Cydia actually still worked, laying credence to the fact that the SSL patch may not be dependent on mobilesubstrate. Again, this I'm not positive on, but whereas it's some code, I'm sure for most cases it's fine.

I still think downloading a cracked tweak or leaving OpenSSH on without changing their password is more likely to occur by far than the SSL glitch.

Yup, in most cases, the SSLPatch will be fine
