I HATE PowerPoint

Sorry, just needed somewhere to vent!
So, I was just doing a presentation on PP for school. I try and change the theme colour on one slide and it changes all of them. The only workaround it to take a screenshot of those colours and lay them over the top.

Then, just as I'm saving, it crashes and makes 10 minutes of my time redundant.

God I HATE PowerPoint.

I know your pain. It's so frustrating when that happens. But as you must know, it can happen on any program and on any computer.

Which version of PP are you using?
One tip that could really help is to save and name the document when you start and set autosave to every few minutes.

I'm using the latest version of PP 2011 on Mac.
It was the colours thing that really got me. Why on earth can't you change the colours on individual slides?

You can, you just havent bothered to figure it out before venting because you seem to have a strong disdain towards Microsoft.

Try format>slide background, change color, apply. Dont change the master slide.

Bingo. I was going to say the same thing. You need to know how to use the app, before you can complain about it.

I personally prefer Office over i-equivalents.

You are changing the color. It's just how it's categorized on power point. And seriously, did you even read the help section on MS Powerpoint or ask someone for help before going on about how it sucks? If you were using a Mac application I can GUARANTEE you would be asking for help, so you don't end up hating on it. People have to stop looking for excuses to hate on Microsofts Products. I'm not hating on MS. I own Windows 7, a PC at home and an XBox. I far from hate MS, but when their software doesn't work it really doesn't work. Also, this is a Mac application. I have asked for help. Do you really think I'd be as obnoxious as to come on here without trying solutions first?

I have looked through countless web pages and MS support pages. Nada.

I would, but it's hard when the computers your designing the PP for are on Windows.

At this point, I'm just overlaying screenshots on the slide. If anyone knows how to change these colours (not the background itself) I'd be grateful: (I've tried Format Background but nothing: am I doing it wrong?)

I'm not trying to troll at all; maybe I was in a bad mood when I posted the thread. Anyhoo, if anyone could help me I'd be grateful

You should be using Keynote in the first place, but maybe it's a school machine running Windows and you've got no choice.

Even in your screenshot, you can edit the theme to your heart's desire. It says it right there. Hence the "Save Theme" button.

You've completely missed the point. I know I can edit the theme, but you can only apply it to all slides, not just one.

You should be using Keynote in the first place, but maybe it's a school machine running Windows and you've got no choice.

Yes, all the computers at school run XP. And I would do the Keynote > Export route but I find most of the animations get mucked up in the process.

You can very much apply the theme to only one slide. In the Master view, click only on the one slide that you want to apply it to, instead of the Master. I forgot exactly how to get there, but it's most definitely possible.

If you can change the colours on one slide, they've made it blooming difficult! Have tried de-selecting the master but it still applies it to all the slides...

It's alright. I'm used to it .

Anything is difficult if you aren't aware of how to do it efficiently .

I'm actually not on a Mac right now, so I can't test it out, but once I get home...actually, hold on. Let me see how to do it on a Windows computer (Work..not my choice)

Hmm, there isn't a design tab on the Mac version. I can change the theme on an individual slide, just not the theme colours.

Create a new theme with different colors, and place them differently on each slide as you see fit?

You're putting the finger on what makes MIcrosoft the most overrated software company ever: you can't use their *expensive* stuff without undergoing an *expensive* time-consuming training.

It's iWork. And yes, from using both extensively I can say that iWork is a lot easier to use than Office.
