This to me is the biggest downgrade of iOS 15. It looks really cramped now and the huge icons just look cheesy. I also think it looks weird that each notification's icon is centered vertically rather than just at the top. It's even more inconsistent that they put the profile picture and then a very small app icon next to it. I don't want ANY PICTURES. I just want the person's name and the app that the message came from.

I really hope they plan to include a toggle to shrink the icons down or something, but I'm not holding my breath. It's possible since they did it in an older iOS version that started to include user profile pictures next to each iMessage conversation and at the top of the conversation and they decided to let the user hide the profile pictures. It COULD happen, right?

I gotta say I had the exact opposite response to you to the notifications. I really like them now and think they look so much better.

I'd be very surprised if Apple included a toggle to do that - but have you submitted this as a request to Apple? I guess if enough people request it they'll consider it?

The centering thing is the only thing annoying me, and seems to be a huge anti pattern in general design, let alone UI design. You just don’t have empty spaces in the corners like that, it never looks good.

On the other hand I love that contact pictures take the main focus for notification images.

I prefer them because they're slimmer. I didn't like them at all at first, but I've gotten use to them and going back to an iOS 14 device I definitely prefer the newer design.

Anyone notice Apple has effectively just switched what notifications look like between iOS and Mac? iOS 15 notifications look like what notifications looked like on the Mac prior to Big Sur. It was nice to have consistent notifications on Big Sur and iOS 14, but I guess they've decided to throw that out.

Looks good to me.
What's the max length a notification can be? Maybe 3 lines and a title is the max height. If so, then I guess it's not TOO bad. I just like seeing the name of the app and I hate seeing contact pictures.

I don't care for contact pictures, either. I know what my family, friends and coworkers look like. I don't need their pictures inserted into their profile.

I prefer my notifications to be short and to the point.

Imagine if your phone took your picture every single time you sent a text and used that as the contact picture for that text?

am looking forward to the AI moment when all our contact pictures age as we do in real life; that seems more urgent than 'privacy' nonsense, or 'working' apps... or a 'functional' OS....

What do the notifications look like with Previews turned off?

To me it seems like a upgrade and it looks better then before remember I'm allowed to have opinions to

I like the improved functionality a lot, but aesthetically I agree with you.

There's just something off about how the new notifications look. I can't put my finger on it, but it just looks a tad less refined than it used.

Would love to see how thinner notifications like this would look sans a picture (though I don't think it'll happen).

Yeah and dear lord are we going to age with all these screens we look at nowadays
