I'm branching off from the thread "Ads are killing the internet!!!!" in an attempt to revolutionize the way we surf.
Commemorating the old phrase: "If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem": That said, we're all responsible for abusing and not protecting the internet. Alas, I'm fed up. I'm want to do something about it and I've got an idea...
These days, they're making it easier for everyone to get online whereas back in the old days, you had to be somewhat intelligent to operate a computer and dial-in. Now, they're just giving internet ready laptops to every elementary school student, every employee and every housewife... (God, I wish we could keep them offline.) These people are so clueless: "HERE, USE THIS FREE TEMPLATE!" and boom- they're pumping tons of spam into our internets. And for what?! Because they're too damn lazy and unimaginative to create something of their own.
And you know what's worse?
The double edged sword is that this same influx of idiots has also given birth to/and fuels the mass media's presence on the internet. The TV guys just followed them from the couch to the desk. They're here because they know these zombies will eat every crumb they throw them.
Honestly, I'm so alone in this world... I go over to my friend's houses and they've got magazines lying about, the TV's on in the background flashing images of Coca-Cola while the YouTube machine is on full blast. It's like a parallel universe to me. The little boys got Playstations and the girls got Hannah Montana. They're financing a car they'll never pay off, but they've got to... they MUST... HAVE... HIGH SPEED... INT4RN3TS!
All the while, I'm just standing here in awe of this massive power, at the mercy of this Godly house of spam and my old IT buddy turns around in his swivel chair: "Hey, bro, wanna Bud? Check out this video of Kayane West at the VMA's..."
"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" How did they get to him? 10 years ago, we literally threw our TV out of our dorm room window and burned our magazines and pledged to never buy into American politics or celebrity gossip. They got him through the interw3bs and now they're coming after me! It's a goddamn zoo out there. It's a complete slap in the face when a website tells you to disable Adblock Plus so they can feed you slavery in exchange to view their content.
I'm tired of it.
Day in and day out, people just mindlessly talk endlessly about this garbage, whilst working their 9-5 jobs, whilst burying themselves in debt. That's not me. That's not what I want to be and I'm not interested in a new SUV. What's worse is that companies we're already paying money are blatantly spamming us.
I'm sick of it.
The internet is fueled by ads, but does it have to be that way? Can we just do away with the ads altogether and pay a monthly premium?
I know there's probably a thousand reasons why this wouldn't work, but the current internet doesn't work either. I'm not talking about reinventing this internet- they can keep their wasteland- I'm talking about creating a completely separate internet and ditching HTTP all together.
I think this concept has the potential to hit big like the App Store. If companies (like say eBay) wanted to be a part of it, they would have to make a version of their website that abides to a set of standards.
To me, the ability to to search for information without spam, without multiple results of the same article, without Winamp generated playlists, without online contests... That's priceless. I for one, would gladly pay $10 a month for an ad-free internet, enriched with useful content. There's so much garbage out there. Take Google's Image search for instance- it's complete mayhem. Type in a word and you get results of something entirely different. I could go on for hours about all the stuff that could just simply not be there.
