Hi all,

My MacPro is about 4 years old now. It has the same ATI Radeon HD 5770 it came with. I am running Snow Leopard.

I recently bought 2 DELL U2713H monitors with a 2k capacity, both connected via miniDVI to HDMI.

However in my MacPro system info both resolutions are given as 1920x1080. Is my MacPro too old to output a 2k display? Either because of the graphics card or some other hardware I am unaware of?

Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks very muchly

S

HDMI is limited to 1920x1200.

You need to use the mini display ports on the card, and either the mini display port or the standard display port on the monitors. That will allow you to get the full 2560x1440.

That card should have dual link DVI and 2 Mini DisplayPort.

I'm not sure why you are converting to HDMi, nor why you mention miniDVI.

You should just use Mini DisplayPort to Displayport.

I had that card and have that monitor. As others have said, you shouldn't be using HDMI.

Use a MiniDisplayPort to DisplayPort cable for each of your monitors.

I believe dual link DVI will go that high, after all the 30" ACD is a comparable resolution and I have one running on a 2009 MP via DVI, which is the only interface those puppies have.
The second one should be happy on mini DP to DP or whatever those Dells have. I haven't looked at Dell since they got all fugly with the industrial design.

Dual link dvi or mini display port to display port adapters are what you should be using.

The latter is the cheaper option
