Okay, I need to know a few things about the wireless connectivity in the iMac Core Duo.

First of all, how many "things" are there in the iMac that connect wirelessly. I know there is bluetooth, but I think there is something else that also is wireless.

Secondly, is there any way to disable ALL wireless transmitions from the iMac?

And last of all, how exactly does bluetooth work. Does it send out a signal in the air that a device catches? or does the device send a signal to the computer?

The reason i'm asking these questions is because if I'm going to get a new iMac, I can't have it be doing anything wirelessly, because of health issues.

Thanks

You can turn off both Bluetooth and Airport very easily in system preferences. (Those are the only wireless signals your iMac would emit.)

And since you asked... Bluetooth can work either way. The computer can try and contact the device or vice-versa. But turning off both of these should solve any issues.

Um, health issues? Unless there is a serious medical condition that relates to wireless technology that I don't know about, you should be aware that having a stack of wires hanging around puts out it's fair share of EM radiation. As do microwaves, and mobile phones, hell glow in the dark paint used to be very radioactive.

You'll be fine. Go wireless, it's the best thing in the world.

I don't ask questions... just try to answer them... :D

I figured they guy knew more about his health situation than me so whatever... If turning them off makes him happy then let him be.

Kind of reminds me of my nearby neighbors. They shut off their whole house's electricity during the night because apparently "the electro-magnetic waves surrounding them causes them stress."

... and here I am, with about 20 electronic devices going in my room all night long, and about 16 things multi-splitting out of 2 power outlets...

Edit: and btw, Bluetooth uses Radio Waves (as far as I know), which are everywhere anyway.
