Hello there! I have a MacBook Late 2008 (the white one) that was working like a champ until a few days ago. After running an Ubuntu Live CD (using a USB drive) the computer freezed and couldn't boot again. I tried a lot of things in order to restore it but none of then worked, so I had to format my HDD. The thing is that after formatting my HDD I haven't been able to use OS X, since it keeps freezing a few seconds after booting. Sometimes I'm able to open some lightweight apps (like Calendar and so on), but it keeps freezing after that.
I tried with an old HDD and I even bought an SSD drive, but it keeps happening (clean OS X install, by the way). I have also tried Apple Hardware Test (it took a lot) but none errors were found. I then read that maybe there is a problem with the RAM, so I have tried using the computer with just one module and I reset the PRAM and SMC. I even installed OS X using a USB drive in case the SuperDrive has stopped working properly. I don't know what else I can try, so I'm hoping you guys could help me.
I know it's an old computer but it was working very well and I want to know what happened. Thanks in advance!
UPDATE: Problem solved guys! I'm going to write down the solution here in case someone needs it in the future. As OS X Lion is the last OS my MacBook supports, I first had to use my Snow Leopard DVD to install the OS and then download Lion from the App Store. After a while I discovered that my MacBook only freezed when it was connected to the Internet, and apparently the problem was with the IPv6 protocol, which causes freezing with older versions of OS X. I could turn it off and everything went back to normal.
You can read more info at the Apple Support forums. Thank you again!
