i am about to buy an iphone 3g 16gig and i was asing my cuzin who works for att and he said that i could like mod/unlock/jailbreak my phone to use a medianet patch so i can use medianet instead of the iphone one(which is the exact same dam thing just way cheaper!) and thus saving me some moeny. he said it was done succesfully to his friends iphone 3g and it worked just as good as it did when it had the normal iphone plan. have any of you guys done that?? or heard of it?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5F136 Safari/525.20)

There's a thread here about AT&T sending out letters when (not if) they catch you. They know if you're using the wrong plan. Also, the 3g cannot be unlocked, so he either misspoke or is lying.

I have no idea about your question but you really shouldn't be assing your cuzin, it is kinda gross.

dam i guess thats waht i get for not using spell check i meant asking hehehe. i dont think my girl would like me doing that to my cuzin lol.

hmm that is interesting i think what i remeber is he changes it to a diffrent phone like if you didnt have an iphone but you really do. i doesnt really matter you cant claim insurance on the iphone so even if you say you dont have it and you break it your still outta luck. but i need to aks him more about this. his friend has had the 3g since it came out and has been using it like that for like a month or two. plus i dont think its fair that att marks up the internet plan just cuz its an iphone and not like a black jack.

AT&T doesn't charge you more because it's an iPhone, they're charging you the same amount they do every PDA/Blackberry that uses 3G. I'm paying $30/month for each of my iPhones. Looking at wireless.att.com the data plan for a Blackjack is $30/month. So how is it cheaper?

its 15 for the medianet package and 15 for the 1500 messages. butthe iphone dont even come with that. and i think the ones the black jack come with unlimited messages and internet. i think my friend has that on his. and he pays 30 dollars more as well.

but i was asking at work and i get a 28% discoutn on my bill...hopefully its from the 70 dollars that the plan costs!

Don't think 3G can do this.

I have the 1st gen iPhone and it's unlocked and jailbroken.

I'm running MediaNet UNLIMITED on it for $19.99 a month. I have a prepaid SIM and my phone plan is the $1 per day, 10 cents a minute.

I DO NOT have a contract (i.e. prepaid) and I do not use it as a phone.

And the phone serial that was used to set it up was a 'burner' phone that was laying around. Pretty much most ATT stores will do this for you and they all have used up SmartPhones around. They want the sale.

Key is to buy the pay as you go plan with a prepaid SIM. Get them to set up your card on a phone they have (just say you have a smartphone but forgot to bring it). They'll take your money and give you a card and instructions on how to activate it. Go home (or out to the car) and follow the instructions.

THE MOMENT it's active, dial 611 and use the voice prompts to BUY FEATURES. Buy the MediaNet Unlimited. Your balance will be debited the $19.99 and you will have unlimited data BUT NOT SMS!!!

SMS is a separate package and fee.

Hope that helps.
