Let me start off by saying, I'm new to the world of mac. I bought my first iMac in October. I have a 20" 2.8 with 4 g of ram. Last night I was using Safari 4.0 with logmein to access my computer at work. The screen suddenly froze up, everything went white. I ended up restarting my computer. Everything works perfectly now except Safari. It will start up but then I have the spinning beach ball until I force quit the application. I trashed the safari application and reinstalled it from my downloads folder, but still have the same problem. All other applications that use the internet connection or my wifi connection work.

Any ideas?

Yea, remeber that 4.0 is still beta so problems are acceptable. Stick with 3.1 as flopticalcube said.

It's always good to have at least 2 internet browsers to avoid problems like this. Firefox is very good option for first or second browser.

Try deleting this file:

/Users/<your username>/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist

and THEN starting Safari. This file contains all of Safari's settings and wouldn't be deleted by putting the Safari application in the Trash.

If that doesn't work, try deleting this directory:

/Users/<your username>/Library/Safari

You may want to save your Bookmarks.plist file from that directory - you should be able to put it back once the /Users/djc6/Library/Safari folder gets re-created next time you start Safari.

If you're nervous about deleting this stuff, you could move both the com.apple.Safari.plist file and the /Users/djc6/Library/Safari folder to your desktop or another location to hold onto them.
