I just spoke to someone at the executive
offices of Apple concerning a letter that I
had written over a week ago. The
individual that called me back was very
helpful about addressing my concerns
about some of the recently reported
problems with the first wave of 27"
iMacs and recent failures with TimeCapsule.

I asked her point-blank about the ship
date for the i7. I told her that it was
shrouded in secrecy and that none of
the sales people were aware of the
ship date.

She looked up my order, which was
a 27" BTO iMac i7. She told me that
it was due to ship on November 16th
with the possibility, based on Apple's
track record, that it may be shipped
out a day or two before.

So, straight from Apple, it seems
that the ship date is next week.

I trust this news will make many
people happy.

Wow! Good for you, for getting to a human being that would talk straight to about the ship date(s). I have to wonder, why all the fog and mirros stuff? Why doesn't Apple say 7-10 days instead of "November".

What did she say about the Quality issues with the 27" iMacs?

Now Im not saying this all didnt happen. But Ill believe it when I get the email. I just called in about 10 minutes ago to see about upgrading my shipping to 2 day (which they did). But she said they still havent received any additional information. Granted, the person you spoke with sounds like they may have been a level or 2 above the CSR I got, but nevertheless.
I hope its true though, Im getting sick of checking my status every hour! I already have my office setup and waiting for this bad boy!

excellent to hear! the first people to get them HAVE to do benchmarks/reviews so i can then finally think about ordering mine! :D

id also love to hear about the quailty of the imacs. and the time capsules. our TC recently died (just waiting for caps to be delivered so i can fix it!)

I hope you are correct, the 16th is my birthday. Happy birthday to me.

I really hope this is true because would like to have it before Thanksgiving Weekend. It would give me some time to transfer everything from my current iMac over and get it all set up.

It will also give me time to set it up in my kitchen nook before Thanksgiving. I can't wait to try and convert some other family members when they come over to eat. I'm sure they will look like this:

If it helps corroborate, I got the same info as NJRonbo from an Apple rep named Casey about two to three hours ago. I called to see if I could add in the rebate printer to my order without screwing up my place in the queue and I also happened to ask about the i7s figuring he wouldn't have an answer but wanting to check anyway. Surprisingly, he said (very convincingly) that all the i7s were to ship the coming Monday (the 16th) and that if there was a delay from that date, it would be a very short one (a few days at most).

Yeah, just to reiterate, this is the real thing.
I'm not pranking anyone. I had a really nice,
long conversation with a woman from Apple
executive offices who was more than happy
to check the date on my order.

She confirmed the i7 was slated to ship
Monday and even suggested Apple could
ship earlier.

And this is a BTO as it has 8GB ram so
it doesn't look like the BTOs are going
to be held up.

all i7's are BTO anyway, because they're different from the 'standard' higher-end iMac configuration of i5, so customising other options shouldn't affect the waiting time of the order at all. Ordering it only 3 days ago on the other hand, might :(
i'm gonna give it till friday and then ring apple a few times to try and get expedited shipping

IDK. I just have to wonder if a base i7 might get shipped a wee bit earlier than a tweaked i7. (grasping at straws and hoping not to wait over a week)

You'll have to wait the same amount of time as the rest of us with 2TB, 8GB builds ;)

Did she mention anything about the Time Capsule failures?

Goes to show even those at the "executive offices of Apple" aren't any more accurate than the customer support folks on the telephone :p

My BTO i7, 2TB, GB will arrive on 11/13! :)

How's that?

My information was reliable and the woman
was spot on.

She told me mine was due to ship on the 16th
but with Apple's reputation it would be a few
days earlier.

Well, mine shipped today.

Sounds like she knew what she was talking about.

Anyone know the average "wait time" it is between "prepared for shipment" and actually have shipped? Mine changed sometime between 10 PM and 5:30 AM this morning, but no clue if it's going out today or not. Meaning: I'm highly doubtful I see this thing by the weekend.
