I have a wireless problem

Hey everyone -

I'm relatively new to Macs and I have a question about network security. I'm going back to college next month with my personal wireless router (the dorm isn't already wireless). I plan to hook the router up to the hard wire in my room, and it should work great. Problem is there are about 30-40 people who will be in range of my router! I don't want them on my network for security reasons, so I was wondering if anyone knows how to encrypt my signal. I have a Linksys Wireless-G router. Thanks for any help!

Check the router manual for the IP of the router (or the LinkSys site). If you enter that IP into your Mac browser (while connected of course) you will be give the hardware options for the router. This is where you will be able to enable a password. Thus stopping anyone from leaching from you.

192.168.1.1 is the default address to get into router configuration. If you've had the router I'm sure you've already done it. Set your router to allow access by MAC address. You'll be the only one who can connect once you enter your MAC address.

You can always add peoples individual MAC addresses if you decide to other people use your wireless connection.
