I feel like an upgrade but can't decide if I should upgrade now or wait until September. What should I do?

The biggest thing is if you want a 5g compatible phone. The smart money is on waiting if you can. You’ll more than likely regret it if you don’t.

Im in the same position as the OP. I have an 8+ (Good solid phone) with my upgrade due in march, and was seriously thinking of getting the 11 pro max but im just not enthusiastic about face id only and the notch (although still a stunning phone). So ive decided to hold out until the iphone 12 is announced which hopefully has a a form of under screen touch id on the pro models. In the meantime i have just ordered a ipad air 3 😁!

Can you imagine how much that will cost Apple and then us? Smaller notch, Touch ID built into the display and 5G. The 5G part won’t be cheap for them either. I have a feeling the 2020 iPhones are going to go up in price. But hey, I could be wrong.

Edit: likely keep the next iPhone 11 the same price and make it look great like they did with the 11. The 11 is worth the money, hands down. That will probably be their main focus this year as well because if they increase the price of the Pro models, they know they will see a decrease in sales with those while an increase in sales with the next iPhone 11.

Hopefully apple now get their face id components slightly cheaper as its now 3 year old tech so this may mitigate the costs, but most of the rumours e.g everything apple, are saying that face id and touch id will be used together for extra security, but whether we get this with the 2020 iphones is anyones guess. Also will be interesting to see what screen resolution they use for the regular iphone 12 as its rumoured to be oled not lcd like before (1080p maybe).

If you're not in a rush to buy I will always recommend waiting.

The iPhone isn't something that Apple will all of a sudden not release in any given year (like say a Mac). By waiting you'll get a better new product as well as getting a longer life out of your current device. What's not to like about that?

Outside of the display what is it you're after that the 8 Plus doesn't do? I wouldn't think the phone would need replacing as yet.

Wait it out. If nothing else you will save money on the 11 Pro Max once the 12 arrives. 7 more months will go by before you know it.

Still love my 8 Plus and have no intention of upgrading until I at least see what the new phones look like and what they have to offer. In my mind, 8 Plus is still a formidable device and has a certain gravitas. In the end it’s just a balance between want and cost. Sooner or later, want will win. Especially if the rumours of a square-edged iPhone 4 style chassis come to pass. Until then I’m happy with the status quo.

Just my outlook on the matter.

This should have been a poll.
That said, why exactly would you upgrade? Battery life, cameras, snappiness? I'm very fine with my 8+ but I don't power use it daily.

We are more likely to have the 2nd edition 11(s) than the 12 this year. If the current design isn't your cuppa tea, hopefully the 12 next year will be something different. The 8 is more than powerful enough to do just about everything a iPhone can do.

I can’t see there would be any point in that personally.

My reasoning was so he can spend money twice and have the latest phone now and in September.

Any little bit someone spends with Apple helps my stock value, lol.

it also shows the stupidity of these kinds of threads.

I would also wait until September 2020. I'm in the same boat as you, and i will wait. Current Line-Up doesn't really excite me, except for the Night Mode (Camera).
