I’ve been so busy getting everything set up and transferred across maybe it was always there but I only recently noticed the “profile” icon in my menubar, then see I have my account that I’m logged in to, that I created when setting up Mac, but I also have an “Admin” account with a bullseye profile picture.

Is this default/always there? I never created a separate password so what is it?

And is that profile icon always in the menubar/there by default?

The default behavior is just one user (the Admin) plus Guest. Likely you created a second using Migration Assistant unintentionally.

Is your primary account also an “Admin”? If so, you can delete the spare account and go about your day.

If not, you have… more to do 😬

Hmm I didn’t use migration of anything. Set up as new Mac, I remember entering my name and the user name/homefolder. So I have two accounts “Admin” and my full name… both admin accounts…

Go to "users and groups".

Is there an additional account there, besides your regular account?

If so, and if you don't want it there, just delete it and see what happens.

That's what I'd do.

Personal experience:
I keep an additional "administrative" account around, even though I very rarely use it.
It's there just for emergencies or diagnostic tasks...

I will check shortly 99% sure it’s there because I recall seeing that screen last night along with mention of a guest account which was turned off.

Is your own/usual account admin-level account too?

Why is it there? A few options:
  • You put it there
  • You ran Migration Assistant and don't remember running it
  • You restarted setup at some point
  • Aliens
  • Communists
But in the end, it's there - doesn't really matter "Why" it's there. If your main account is an Admin, remove it.

Hmm super weird

I definitely didn’t create a separate account I live alone

Didn’t migrate - wanted to set up fresh and also my first mac

Restarted setup… hmmm? Really don’t think so but ?

I think it could be aliens

“Why” is mainly just wanting to understand how it even happened. As I said I don’t RECALL noticing it originally, so what or how the hell did it even get created? Just… yeah
