I have an idea for an iphone app...

Good websites besides craigslist?
I know of sitepoint for graphic design, anything similar?

Try the iPhone Dev SDK forum - they have a dedicated forum for app development jobs: link.

You can also try asking one of the existing app developers for help. Some of them may provide contact info in the app's website.

Unless it is a really simple, and I mean REALLY simple, I don't think you will find anyone willing to write an app for only $1,000.

If you only have $1K to spend then I think your only option would be a profit sharing plan where the writer gets a portion of the proceeds. Of course, you need to be careful because if you have a really great idea then what is to stop the developer from just doing it on their own? You might think about getting an NDA.
