So, I've had my 2nd gen Touch since Christmas 2008, and I used it as my dedicated MP3 player. Over the past year I gradually stopped listening to music whilst out and about. I then bought an Android phone (I couldn't afford... and still can't afford an iPhone :/) and gradually built up a music collection on there, and used that for music. However, my Android phone is having a lot of problems, such as random restarts, texts becoming lost and freezing, so am thinking of replacing it with another budget Android.

Anyway, I'm considering getting one of the new Nano's as well. Would there be much point since I have the 2nd gen Touch? I don't really use Apps anymore, since the ones I do use require the internet - Facebook and Twitter, and I can access them on my phone.

Should I get a Nano? What do you reckon?

Sell your iPod and your Android phone, they are still worth something.

If you can settle for a non-smartphone, do it. Don't even buy a data plan. Buy only as many phone minutes and texts as you really need. Maybe try to cut back on your cell phone minutes/texting usage. Save the money you save in a savings account. Then - when you have saved at least enough money from downgrading your cell phone and/or plan - buy an iPhone.

Iphone 3gs is free for ATT if you qualify for upgrade or new account so no excuses lol and the 4 is $100 and 4s is $200 so its not so bad and I know a lot of people have complained about ATT network but I been on them since 2006 and not a single problem more than another other of my friends on any other network. Just saying.

Only you can decide whether or not to get the nano. I'll lay out my list of pros and cons ... perhaps that'll help with your decision.

Pros

1. Small form factor - super small and lightweight. Hardly even know you have it on you.

2. Fitness "apps" - if you like to run and/or workout, the Nike+ and pedometer features are pretty cool. If you already use Nike+, then even better.

3. FM Radio - not all iPods have a radio tuner. The nano does, plus it has a "DVR" feature for pausing, rewinding, fast forwarding live radio. (note - there's no way that I can see to save the buffered radio broadcast)

Cons

1. Battery life is pretty short for me. However, I have the pedometer on all day, plus I workout for about an hour a day. I have to recharge every night.

2. Control Ergonomics - there are some limitations on performing certain functions. For instance, if you're running with Nike+, it's very difficult to switch playlists, or go to the radio, etc. You just have to pick a playlist (or radio) and stick with it.

That's about it for me. I like to run, so the nano is perfect for me.
