I like big screens, but apparently the new iMacs don’t even offer ProMotion?

Will it be much faster than my M2 MBP?

My first Mac was an iMac, so they hold a special place in my heart.

Will be used for general computing stuff.

Any advice, would be welcomed.

It’s a beautiful display but if you’re looking for high refresh gaming it’s not the one.

No. At least I don’t suspect so. I wouldn’t expect some sort of night and day difference. It might be slightly faster for some things, but all the M series processors are super fast for general purpose use.

I absolutely loved my M1 iMac, but I don’t like sitting at the desk. If you feel you’re going to be sitting at the desk, this is a great general purpose computer.

Many thanks for taking the time to feedback.

So basically, I’m better of sticking with what I have for now?

I don’t do any gaming on Macs.

Thanks again.

General computing goes so much better with a display large enough to keep multiple documents/feeds near each other visually. I loved my 24 inch imac (2009) to do this.

You have 2 laptops. Is one your primary daily driver? If so, you can get a larger screen by semi-permanently docking your secondary laptop to a monitor. Last month I did this with my 2012 macbook pro, got a ultrawide 34inch 3440x1440 for <$270 and am happy with that desktop setup, did not need to buy a new computer and got to get more use out of the extra laptop I had. Your new M4 iMac base (that's all you would need to get for your use case) is $1300 + tax...the majority of monitors cost far less.

It's hard to fight buying the new shiny. But you have already have 2 fairly new computers.

Thanks for your reply.

My 2008 iMac was my first Mac, and I loved it.

You're right, it’s that feeling you get when you buy something new.

Both my Macs are 16Gb 1Tb so they really should last for years.

If you want "a desktop", get an m4pro Mini, properly equipped, and a 27" display (either 4k or 5k, depending on your budget).
