Yes skeptics I have been to the future, I am under full Non Disclosure to divulge details other than whats below but let me tell you as a MAC gamer, and a Hardcore PC, 360, PS3, Wii, DS, iPhone, iPad, and all around gamer ONLIVE IS FOR REAL!!!

Some of you might not know what Onlive is or have heard about it but bashed it.. Well Im in the Soft Launch which started last week.. Yes I have the official final client and Im playing it now so listen up.

Onlive isn't steam, it isn't Digital distribution it's basically a browser based console.

You download a 1MB file to your computer PC or MAC and it installs its own client. From there you run the program and a window pops up full screen and your in within 15 seconds.

When I say its console like well it is.. Its Future Console. It runs on ANY PC netbook, MAC, windows if you can watch Hulu on it you can play High End PC games right now!!!

Better yet the games have no install, and EVERYTHING is streamed to you PC Live with Almost no lag.. Put it this way I played Unreal Tournament with 10 players online with a wired 360 controller on the MAC and had ZERO complaints with the gameplay, speed, and quality of this service..

Sure the graphics are a bit less than most hardcore games are used to, but its better than Wii quality!!!!!!! Basically games look slightly washed out and a little dark probably due to compression.. (I was told by support 1080p) quality will be implemented in 2011 once they get this up and running fine.

Im not going ot go into everything here, but the official launch in June 17th and if your a MAC gamer you should look into this! They offer demos (30 mins each) trials and offer Rentals something like $8-10.00 for 5-6 days I think at publisher discretion.

I was a skeptic but Im super impressed with the technology.. If you have a good decent internet connection you need to check this out...

It's better than you heard...

Ping and prices are why I am absolutely not interested in this one.

I heard it was very bad, from beta testers too.

How is it on a 8mb cable connection? my ping isnt usually to bad net speed has it at 179.

Your freinds are wrong.. You have to see it to believe... Its not PC quality at all and if your within 1000 miles of the servers you have no issues really..

This week you will see the unveiling, but honestly Onlive has earned my respect and better than that they have earned my money!

i just got off a 4 hour marathan ONLIVE played 3 games and had next to NO lag the entire time.

But you will always have lag. There will be input latency and display latency - always. Even if the server was in your home there would be latency.

And I trust my friends call on this. They are game developers, some indie, some very big time ones who were invited in to test it all out. None of them liked it. Beta testers on sites I visit haven't had good things to say. The whole ownership fiasco is going to put a lot of people off it too. Bought a game? Great! But once you stop subscribing you can no longer play it.

It should be mentioned that it also requires a WIRED Internet connection so WiFi users need not apply. This may not be an issue for some people but it will be for others. I also noticed on their webpage that one of their featured games, Mass Effect 2, will only be available for the PC. That is one of several games they will be offering that has no official Mac port. I would think that would be a big draw for Mac users. There wouldn't seem to be any technical issues preventing them from offering Mass Effect 2 for the Mac but nevertheless it clearly states on their webpage that it's only available for Windows. I can only assume it's some sort of legal issue. Hopefully this isn't the case with other games.

I do think this service has some potential but the various perks are going to have to be really worth it to pay that expensive monthly fee. Especially considering us Mac users now have Steam, which doesn't have a monthly fee.

It's about 5 years too early frankly, but this is where gaming will end up at some point.

If they launch it as the set top / desk top box they might have more luck imho as that will be more likely to have ethernet cables within reach and is tangible.

I'm really excited about this (and irked about what someone just posted for ME2!!!) but I hope this really is something that works. It launches this week eh?

I'm not exactly sure of the current networking capabilities but I've got to agree that this service is a little too early. Once we can all get internet capable of producing 10MBps then this service will be viable. I can't imagine no lag on the currently available internet services. Make this available on WiFi so I can actually give an accurate review; I have an account but no access to a wired connection :/ A waste, honestly.

I am almost in the same situation as you, although I have tried it with a wired connection. To do that I have to unplug my cable modem from my Airport express, reset the cable modem, then plug it into the ethernet port on my iMac to use it. Then I have to put everything back the way it was when I'm done. With this service being such a new technology, and for what it has to offer at launch, I am not going to buy extra equipment (like a wired router) just so I can use the service. So until they enable WiFi I may plug in every once in a while (at least one more time anyways to get my free game) but that's about it. They should have enabled WiFi from the beginning and just gave people a warning if they chose to use the service that way. The warning could have said something like “WiFi access is unsupported at this time so use it at your own risk”. Everybody's WiFi connection is different so some people might actually have some success with it (and some that have found workarounds apparently are). Not letting people use this connection method from the start is a big risk in my opinion.

In any case I will say the service did work pretty well for me with the wired connection. I still doubt I would ever pay for this service but for now I'll take my free year and free game and try it out whenever I can (especially when they enable WiFi access).
