I have jailbroken now I have a question

This is the first time I have jailbroken my phone and the first thing I have noticed is that when I synced from iTunes the first time some of my old apps couldn't install b/c I don't have the newest OS. It says my phone is running2.1. How do I get it to be the newest OS? If I upgrade and then jailbreak again won't that just make it the same version it is right now?

Um... There's now a version 2.2.1

Sync in iTunes to backup your phone, restore the phone, upgrade, jailbreak, then restore your backup through iTunes.

ok thanks alot. I think the reason this happened is because recently my itunes started going haywire and I had to reinstall the entire OS on my mac and I lost everything and I haven't synced since then. Thank you

Couldn't you have just reinstalled iTunes?
