First you see this;

Our 3.1.3 full unlock is now available for iPhone 3G and 3GS. You can turn your iPhone off and on at will, and you can also upgrade within iTunes without fear of re-locking. This is the ONLY true unlock in the world right now.

You pay the money (39 pounds) and then you see this;

You will need to be running the latest version of iTunes (9.0.3) to use our software.

IMPORTANT

Apple have recently released version 3.1.3 - If you are already software unlocked with us as opposed to Early Bird™ Unlocked you must NOT update or restore your iPhone 3G using iTunes without holding down either the SHIFT key (PC) or ALT key (Mac) which allows you to choose previous firmware versions, which are supplied on the relevant page.

If you are running a 3GS which is software unlocked (as opposed to Early Bird™ Unlocked), you must not restore your iPhone AT ALL.

Early Bird™ Unlocked customers can restore their iPhone at any time and remain unlocked.

In other words if you have already updated in iTunes (which I have you CANNOT UNLOCK YOUR PHONE

Actually, it doesn't matter. Every one of the scam sites operate exactly the same way.

To OP: Certainly after being a member here for over 6 months you have read at least one warning here about these scam sites.

Why would you even think they could unlock your phone when the threads you have posted in here tell you you cannot unlock ?
And all the tools are free ! No need to ever pay.

Correct I did buy the nexus one and my wife's iPhone is also on 3.1.3 so we tried the http://www.iphoneunlockuk.com/instructions.php to see if we can really get her phone unlocked and as far as I am concerned I got scammed........... its not the money (I have plenty of that) its the fact that I am stupid to believe that they can do it "NOW" when in fact they get your money first and then tell you that you have to have this and that, and whatever you do dont upgrade in itunes (They tell you this AFTER THEY GET YOUR MONEY)

The Early Bird Unlock™ (only for 3G and 3GS running 3.1.3) is a special procedure which involves unlocking your handset through iTunes itself using our activation server. It is different from a software unlock in that the iPhone is unlocked officially without jailbreak and also means you can upgrade using iTunes as normal.

It does take 3 days however and you will be charged a nominal amount by your carrier if your iPhone is on PAYG - they deduct it from the SIM. This is because this unlock is based on a revenue sharing agreement. The precise amount varies per operator.

While Apple’s 3.1.3 firmware was minor in terms of new features, it’s had the side effect of opening up a huge market for scam sites. *These sites will promise you a 3.1.3 jailbreak for newer devices like the iPod touch 3G, or a baseband 05.12 software unlock. *Those desperate enough to “just give it a shot” will find, 100% of the time, that they were misled. *After money has changed hands they’ll be told “well the 05.12 unlock is coming, in the meantime here’s the 05.11 unlock” (of course the 05.11 unlock was intended to be free, as you all know). *They’ll hold your money until one day the 05.12 unlock does come out, even if that’s months later (and of course it’ll be released for free). *In the meantime they’ll be able to claim they gave you part of what they advertised, and keep at least part of your money (in actuality they’ll usually keep all of it).

Don’t fall for these scam sites! *None of them have a 05.12 unlock, none have the 05.11 unlock working on 3.1.3, none have a 3.1.3 jailbreak for newer devices like the ipt3G. *They’re trying to capitalize on your upgrade mistake, and they only need a very small percentage of people to fall for them to make their money and run.

Those following twitter may have seen some recent very early developments in the 05.12 unlock situation. *One of our more helpful commenters sherif_hashim (at a rating of 84p you know he’s helped others much already!) found what looks like a very promising crash in the new baseband. *He’s put in a lot of work looking for crashes over this past year, and he’s still looking for more! *We’ve started to look at his crash but it’s a long road between any given crash and a fully working unlock, and we couldn’t put an ETA on it even if we wanted to. *It’s not even guaranteed that an working unlock will come from this particular crash — it’s just too early to tell.

In the meantime, please stay vigilant against these scam sites. *Don’t be part of the small percentage of people that fall for them because that small percentage is all they need.

Well, I can think of several reasons and most of them are not very flattering to the people who pay for these scams:

1) Failure to research (the scam site or their personal JB/UL situation)
2) Those that do know they cannot unlock, make a foolish decision to try it because they are desperate
3) Lack of common sense or street smarts (like this is the ONLY site in the whole entire world that can unlock your phone. They know something NOBODY ELSE KNOWS)

And the reasons go downhill from here :( No need to list the real negative ones.

The real shame is one can see these trends in their other posts, it seems many just never learn from past advice or experiences.

Because some of us are desperate to be able to use the phone the way we want to......... and then there are people like me that check the Dev team webpage 3 times a day and still get sucked in by $£@^&%$£.

It is my own fault but I just hope that someone else out there wont fall for my stupid BS

The Dev-Team has a huge article about this sort of site at the very top of it's blog, and a link on the main page to an entry about the very site you used. If you still had questions, a quick Google search or a search on this site (there have been many threads on this very site) or a search on the Dev-Team blog or posted here or on the Dev-Team blog would have revealed instantly that it was a scam. I'm sorry, but I have no sympathy for someone knowingly ignores the Dev-Team's warnings and pays a scammer. You knew better.
 
Man, why is everyone attacking this guy? He admitted it was his own dumb mistake. He basically said he was posting this so hopefully nobody else would fall for the same crap he fell for.

Unfortunately these sites pray on those who are desperate for a jailbrake and on those who just don't know enough about the whole process. There are a lot of people out there who own iphones who do not go on forums much or who just don't understand really what it is to jailbrake and unlock the iphone. That is why these sites exist and flourish. The more posts there are about these scams the better cause maybe others will google search and see all the negative about it and not waste their hard earned money.

Good looking out man. Although you did not pay attention to others warnings, hopefully others will see this and avoid foolishness. Hope you get your money back.

I have posted it many times and now added the link to there blog on my signiture though I doubt lt will help. Op if your pockets were S deep as you say I doubt you would have posted this. What's $30 bucks to a wealthy man?

I am not looking for sympathy or 30 bucks, I am pissed off for being so $%£$@£$ stupid and hope that my post will MAYBE stop someone else for doing what I did.
Anyway my experience of these forums is that a small minority enjoy taking the piss out of a 53 year old guy that just maybe needs some help:)

Has anyone who has paid this company complained to Trading Standards in the UK? You aren't doing anything illegal in jailbreaking or unlocking your phone, but if they are taking money for an unlock they then don't provide, as alleged, then they would be. Trading standards will take action... but only if you help them.

Why are you bothering to argue with these people? If they were willing to lie to you to get your money, what makes you think they'll give it back just because caught on? They're just following their old playbook, claiming they've gotten you through "step one":
