I have some mildly excellent news about the iPad!

I'm sure most of your assumed that the iPad would be capable of accessing 7.2 Mbps networks, but not all of us were sure.

Well, being bored and inspired by the guy who asked Steve Jobs about tethering I decided to ask via email.

Here is the total correspondence:

He replied very quickly, and from his iPad!

I know it's not all that big of news, but it made me super happy that the CEO and founder of the company I love answered my simple but relevant question so abruptly. (nerdgasm) :D

Anywho, no more wondering for me, I'm getting a 64 GB Wi-Fi + 3G.

I did watch it, and I didn't see anything mentioned about it being capable of accessing 7.2 Mbps networks.

If I missed that, oh well. Steve Jobs still emailed me. :D

I just re-watched the keynote from the exact point that Steve Jobs mentions 3G compatibility to the end. There is NO mention of the iPad being capable of using 7.2 Mbps networks.

Instead of being cocky and wrong, check your facts next time.

Don't waste your time. I've checked both. It's not under the tech specs or in the keynote.

I don't understand why everyone has to be an ass. I understand it's Monday, but Jesus people.

It is under tech specs...

UMTS/HSDPA (850, 1900, 2100 MHz)
 
Does Steve Jobs really make a habit of responding directly to customer inquiries? If so...okay, I can't deny it, that's kind of cool, if monosyllabic.

The cynic in me thinks that maybe it's a PA or something (if nothing else you would think the sheer volume of email would make responding impractical), but I would still ignore these folks and enjoy your cheap thrill. :)

I hope you don't actually think he personally responded. He must get hundreds or thousands of emails a day.

Even though I appear to be terribly wrong, I shall enjoy the cheap thrill.

I understand it's probably a PA, and I never saw mention of 7.2 Mbps when I searched.

Oh well, I concede. (I still think it was Steve.)

steve does read most emails, responds personally to the interesting mail, questions he can answer or problems he can sort out by forwarding the mail (like a repair gone wrong)

he gets around 350 emails per day and they are a mix of important ideas, crazy ideas, people upset, people inspired, and totally crazy people (their was one email that said something along the lines of: I will kill your family if you don't update this product
 
I remember I read this article when it was posted on Gizmodo and I thought it was great. I'm sure Steve Jobs does reply to the emails he feels he can reply to the best himself, if he can't, he'll make sure someone can.

A high school student recently wrote Apple CEO Steve Jobs an email asking for a discounted version of Final Cut Studio 2. Instead of giving the kid the discount, Jobs forwarded the email onto a colleague and sent a free copy of the video editing software the kid’s way.
The student is a long-time Gizmodo reader who told them the story today.

I'm with you, OP, on this one - enjoy the cheap thrill. I'd be so happy if Steve Jobs e-mailed me, I'd probably save it forever. =)... Even if it was 'Yep."

Agreed upon, off course it was him. Also if he wouldve deemded the question stupid/irrelevant/answer previously clearly communicated he wouldnt have answered so all you haters back off.
 
I emailed jobs about problems with iPhone OS 2.0 and he responded and put me in touch with a senior iTunes engineer as I believed that was the problem (and it was).

As for 7.2mbps thing, the iPhone 3GS has this capability! I regularly get 4-6mbps on 3g on my iPhone 3GS (after the AT&T Cisco backend updates) and it was announced at the WWDC keynote last year. So of course the iPad will have it. Now what I would have asked him is if it supports the higher upload speed, as the iPhone 3GS tops out somewhere around 300-350kbps. There was some MR story last year about how the 3GS had the slower upload component in it's radio and many people were bummed. Knowing if the iPad has the faster upload is more important IMO. You should ask him about that. And if his iPad has a camera, lol. I bet it does...
