While I'll be gaining 3G capability (may only use it a few times), I'll be losing 16gb worth of storage. I don't know if the trade is worth it. I don't think I'll be using the 3G much (though it's nice to have the option), but currently I don't use even half of the 16gb on my 32gb iPad.

Anyone have any input or advice? Thanks.

The gps is cool, and you never know if you'll want 3g in the future.

I have a 16gb 3g myself and I dont think I will ever fill it up.

...I just had a choice of a 32Gb wifi ($530) or a 64Gb 3G ($738) iPad at the clearance shelf of our base PX = the best choice is the 3G version since you can't add it to your device after you purchase the wifi only model...

I've decided to return the iPad because I have a netbook, a whitebook and an iPod Touch so to me the iPad is just not portable enough with the devices I already have... maybe if one of my laptops break and/or another generation of iPad comes out I'd re-look into them again but for now it just didn't excite my family enough to keep it (even at the discounted price)...

Good luck with your decision...

If you don't have a way of tethering to a phone for data I think it would be worth it. I kind of regret (although not totally bc I don't really like AT&T) not getting a 3G...I ended up getting a virgin mobile mifi and even though I only used it once and only used like 5 mb...it was so convenient.

So yes portable Internet I think is better than 16gb of storage...especially if the iPad still has unlimited data and you can just transfer it into your name.

I was going to suggest this also. Using a MiFi also enables you to connect up to 5 devices to where the 3G iPad only enables the one device.

I have a 16 GB 3G and love it. I still have 4.3 GB left in storage and while I thought I may have made a bad decision in not getting the 32 GB I have found that I'm not likely to buy any more music and add many more photos which take up the most space on my iPad. Therefore I won't ever fill it up.

On the other hand I use 3G everyday. I use it to browse the internet and play music from Pandora when I'm at work and in the car.

Never.

16gb is way too small. Can barely fit anything on there at all. You won't even use the 3g very often, especially if you already have a smart phone with internet.

You also can't addd GB so you are losing a feature not just gaining one.

My opinion.

I had the 64 Gb wifi and traded to the 32Gb 3G. I did use all 64 GB until a bought airshare so now I don't need the space. I had a line of stuck pixels and asked best buy to trade for a 3G unit. Now I just eject my microsim and use my iP4 unlimited data for the few times I need it.

I wondered about that. So the ip4 sim works in the 3G version of the ipad. Perhaps I'll look at that when the next ipad rev happens.

Cheers,

I agree. 16 is WAY too small for me. He'll 64 is way too small for me.

^^^^Fixed that for you (but not the iPad produced typo).

The 16 GB that I have is barely half full. Different people have different needs. I have no need to put all my crap on my iPad..... I use it primarily for surfing, reading, and a little gaming.

Do you really care about the opinions of people who have no knowledge of you personally or care one way or the other?

Do it, don't do it... Your decision. It's big boy time - let's learn to make our own minds up on this one...

By the way, should I have a cheese sandwich or a biscuit/cookie ? ;)

I think you should make a cheese sandwich using two cookies as bread.

It's like an Oreo, but with cheese. Mmmmmm........

The way I look at it is that you can upgrade your mobile networking (Mifi or similar mobile wifi device) but you can't upgrade your iPad storage. Of course, everyone's requirements are different but you never know when you might want the extra storage.. when travelling, it's nice to have a lot of movies and TV eps and so on to keep you entertained during flights etc (and personally, AirSharing video quality doesn't do it for me even when I am on my home LAN).

Ultimately, as has already been suggested, it's your choice but just remember it's not one you might be able to (easily) reverse at a later stage.

It does work. I saw a video of it on YouTube. All you do is put the sim in and change a word under cellnetwork from "broadband" to "phone" and it works. Then I just use text+ for texting.

What do you want to put in there?
Your library of 1080p movies?

The ipad doesn't really work as a portable music listening device... that is what an ipod does.

Neither is made to have hundreds movies in it...

And as an ebook library you can fill it up with years of reading in 16Gb...

And really how many apps you need to fill 16Gb?...

I wouldn't myself, and if you don't think you'll use the 3G more than a few times, I don't recommend you do it either.

Having swapped my original wifi model for a 3G model, I'd say it's a great decision. Having ubiquitous Internet on this device is fantastic and means you're not tied to a wifi hotspot. Once you use the 3G model I don't think you'll go back to wifi.

To those who said 16gb is way to small: I've had mine for a few months now and haven't filled my 16gb. And there's no sign that I will.

I have a 32GB 3G as opposed to a 64GB Wi-Fi (same price) as I travel a lot. Heck, I'm in germany right now (flying home at 9:30PM :( ) and I bought 1 months usage for €10 on my 3G iPad which came in handy on the road. With a MiFi you'll be network locked in most cases.

You don't need all the 32Gb space. Get the 16gb 3G
