iPod I have the original iPod

It was working until about a year ago then I think that the hard drive finally died. Is it fixable? I don't really need it for music anymore but I don't want to just toss it. What would you do with it?

Don't!!!! toss it out. I have kept all of Nanos, why? Cause each one is unique with it own personality, style and charm. I have ONLY two of the classic, still have my first Mac….. the eMac and the box it came in.

(or have it fixed, a local iPhone repair place [or yourself, with the right tools] should be able to replace the drive. It's the OS/firmware that may be the tricky part)

maybe try to find a place that specializes in repairing the iPod. then id case it and save it for the future!

If you have a Mac mini or Mac Pro (2012 or behind) and a FW400 to 800 cable, iTunes will probably still recognize it.

I have one also! it worked the last time i turned it on, but that was a few years ago. however the G4 MDD that i used to sync it no longer works...

If its just the HDD, that is an easy fix. Either way, a first gen iPod would be worth something to me now.

HDD is an easy fix on all the classic form factor ipods.
Keep using it, if you can! The battery might be getting weak as well...

As for it being valuable in the future, don't bet on it. These things were just produced in too high numbers to be collectable.
I have a couple Mac Classics that I have held on to, but aside from being nice to look at and bringing back memories they aren't going to have much value. Hoard for your love of the thing, not to make a few bucks!
