I have to say, Opera is the best browser for Yosemite

Safari is not bad, but its buggy in Yosemite and it will slow down the whole system if you keep using it for like entire day and always keep 10+ tabs running. And I don't know why but since DP5 safari has problems with youtube.

Chrome is a great alternative, it loads pages (slightly) faster than safari, but its laggy, really laggy. It freezes sometimes and, the most of the time even scrolling the pages are not that smooth. Besides, the UI is too ugly, at least for me I don't like it. But I still use it to watch utube.

And them I started searching for a fast browser for mac. I finally recalled Opera from my deep memory and decided to give it a try.

And, Opera is fast, bloody fast.

The UI is still ugly, but no lags, no memory leaks, and most importantly, it opens pages like a thunderbolt.

Now I think Im gonna stick with Opera or at least try it for few more days. you know browser is such a pain since Mac never had a truly perfect browser. If you care about speed, then just get alone with ugly UIs, if UI is the thing, just stick with safari.

BTW Ive tried opera for 2 hours, spotted some issues, but never had problems with speed.

Opera uses Blink, a fork of webkit developed by Google.

I disagree anyway. Best browser on Yosemite is Safari for me. Might as well use Chrome if you're gonna use Opera imo. Now they've gone Chromium based they've just lost their individuality and look/feel like most other browsers out there.

Safari 8 becomes very slow after a couple of days use. Restart always kicks it back to live.

Chrome, on the contrary, is way more stable for prolonged use. Safari is still in beta. So it's supposedly becoming better with each release.

I just downloaded Opera Developer. It's now 64bit and I love it. It is indeed fast. Minimal interface doesn't hurt either.

As for Safari, I feel like the pages hang too often + it uses wayyyy too much RAM. It should not be using that much RAM compared to Chrome which uses LESS RAM but kills my battery life

Firefox is out of the question. Insane CPU usage and kills the battery as well.

So... I'll be testing Opera Developer for a few days and see how it plays :roll eyes:

Hopefully they get Safari sorted by the next update, I'd love to see it perform without hangs and insane RAM usage.

No problems with Safari on my Mid-2011 iMac. Pages load instantly, no lag and no other issues.

I just tested opera developer 25 and it's really great.
Faster than safari also it has much better zoom page engine and when used it does not break page design like safari on some sites.
Also one very nice thing it plays vp9 by default on youtube and they are better quality than h 264 ones witch is cool too.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the Safari version in Yosemite still classified as "Beta?" Wouldn't make the comparison a tad unfair?

I've kept trying Opera over the years, but it never seems to play nice with plug ins, page layouts, etc. I'm always wondering, "Is that really how this page is supposed to display? I always go back to Safari.

I'm just completely in love with the new Safari. It's 99% everything I want in a browser (some more addon APIs particularly for blocking content would be nice). With Yosemite it's now my favourite browser. I've not experienced hangs or issues myself. Maybe the public beta has been safe from them. In which case, I wouldn't judge Safari in the DPs.

Opera is just lacking in every department. Looks too much like Chrome and Firefox but with a mere portion of the functionality. Other than Safari my votes go to Firefox for general browsing and Chrome for YouTube. They're now all so close to each other though there's virtually no difference to the average person.

I am new to iMac but I have been using duckduckgo as my browser . Is anyone using that? I seem to have a lot of problem trying to play website videos..like qvc or hsn or abc. I downloaded VLC..it eventually works sometimes but its a long long wait to load..Is that normal?

duckduckgo is a search engine, not a web browser.

everyone should move from bing/google/yahoo ---> duckduckgo.

Just tried Opera developer and experienced THAT laggy scrolling.

Safari is million times better and most of the time it's smooth as butter.

Glad you found a solution but I have none of the Safari issues you quote.

I'm always jumping between devices so seamless cloud tabs is something I use all the time too.
