I don’t mean I’m listening to a lot of music on my new 12.9, but watching movies and TV is hugely improved over my old 6th generation, which only had a speaker on one side. I could hardly hear dialog unless I turned it way up, so I used AirPods a lot when watching YouTube and TV/movies. The sound on my new iPad is so much better that unless someone else is in the room, I don’t bother with AirPods anymore and hear everything fine. When the source is stereo, it’s very noticeable. It’s a huge upgrade that doesn’t get much attention.

Well, of course it’s going to be huge improvement over your 6th Gen iPad. I’ve always found the iPad Pro’s speakers to be phenomenal and the 12.9” 2021 is no exception. I’m an avid music listener too, so I use them babies a lot. :D

I haven't noticed much improvement from my 2018 12.9" to the 2021 12.9". It's great for a tablet, but I mainly use my AirPods Pro with it.

There was a improvement from 2018 to 2020. The 2021 audio quality is a step back if watching YouTube videos with bad recording.

I noticed a slight difference, but not anything major.
