Sorry, I just have to rant...

Here's my story...

Last year (in August), I switch from Telus to Rogers in anticipaion of Rogers carrying the Iphone.

From a contact, I got a pretty good deal on voice only plan.

Here we are, one year later, and I should now be able to purchase the Iphone...

Well, should is the word here...

Well in fact I can AND cannot.

On the Rogers website, it's written that I will be elligible to an hardware upgrade on the 17/08/2008. witch is thie coming sunday.

I just call to check what it would cost me... and to my suprise, I am NOT elligible this coming sunday even if there website says so...

I'm on a corporate plan, (and even if you don't beleive me, I didn't even know.. anyway)

Corporate plan get phone upgrade every 24 months instead of every 12 months.... so I would be upgrade elligible only in August 2009 ! Grrr:mad:

But I can do what Rogers call a « pre-elligible upgrade » for 10 $ a month until new elligibility. Since I would only be elligible in a year, 12 months. that is 12 X 10 $ $ = 120 $ to pay ON TOP of the price of the phone...

And the phone IS NOT 199 $ for 8 gigs... the price is 599 $ for the 8 gigs...

But I would get a 100 $ credit, bringning the cose of the photo to 499 $ (+ 120 $ pre-upgrade) ... and plus the 35 $ « normal upgrade whatever fees » bringning the total to 654 $ $

If I get a data plan on top of that (30 $ / 6 gig monthly) I get another 100 $ credit, bringning the cost of the phone to 399 $ (+120 $ + 35 $) witch is still 554 $ :mad::mad:

I am also told by Rogers that I can also drop my corporate plan and signup to a Iphone plan and this way get the Iphone for 199 $... but hey who would drop a plan that worth 65 $ and that you pay only 20 $ (voice only)

Argghhhhhhh should I buy it anyway or not ?:(

Wait, you're getting a $65 plan for $20 and you're complaining about having to pay an extra $120 + the full price of the phone and then ontop of that receive 2 $100 credits back?

I hear you, Rogers isn't really winning me over, so I decided to get an iPhone without the contract extention. How you ask? Friends of mine got in touch with their Rogers rep (actually one of those non-Rogers branded 'Wireless' stores) and he set me up with a black 16GB iPhone for $599 (well $699 -$100). I kept my $25/month voice plan, and didn't pick up a Rogers data plan.

I'm sure if you go to one of those Wireless stores you can get the iPhone with out the contract extension and without the $10/month "early upgrade" fee.

In a side note I might have to pick up a data plan anyway... with 3G off and pretty carefull useage, I've still managed to rack up some KB's with accidental WiFi drops. I'm afraid they're going to charge me $0.05/KB ... I guess $15/month for the lousy 2MB is worth it to avoid the almost $35 in 'usage' I have now. :(

I signed up for Fido's $30/month 6 gig plan (+ a $30/month voice plan), but I gotta say ... in my first month, I've barely used 500 megs!

And ya ... my first bill was full of +$600 -$100 +$50 -$30 +6.95 -$0.5 and so forth and so on. It was a bit of a mess.

I thought Rogers can't give away the iPhones fast enough due to pressure from Apple. I just called in and got one yesterday, even though my last hardware upgrade was back in 2003. My friend who's on corporate plan got two 16 GB phones a few days before I did when he walked into a local store (one for himself and one for his wife, both for C$299).

Check out this thread. That's where I got the info before I called in.

Call retentions, threaten to leave and demand the iPhone. They'll give in, unless they want to lose your business. Just say you can go to Bell and get the Instinct for alot less money, and you'll get them motivated.

I know a few people on corp. plan with Rogers, they called and threatened to leave and before ya know it, they had gotten the iPhone for $199 just like everybody else. Then you can just add the $30/month for 6 gigs data plan to bring your bill roughly to $50 a month.

That or you either wait till the new corp. pricing comes out, either way though I think the HUP eligibility has changed to 3 months now, so you should be eligible now.

I check your link.. at the bottom of the first post it says : upgrade 1 : Not for corporate plan.

And it seems I am on one.

I think you quoted the wrong post.

Trust me, do what I say and call retentions and threaten to leave Rogers. You have nothing to lose and odds are they will give in.

Yeah I quote the wrong post...

As far as calling retention... I can try... but I am pretty sure They will tell me to just leave if I'm not happy.

Actually, I'm not a big customer for them... like I said, I just pay 20 $ a month... for a 65 $ worth plan.

But I may try... I think I don't have any termination fee anyway...

Just try, and if they call your bluff and say they're willing to let you go, then you can just rethink the situation.

Like I said, I think near the end of August, new corp. pricing will be coming out for Rogers.

Check this out, it may help:

So in the first year you've saved $540. Have you ever heard the phrase you don't get something for nothing. You signed up to a plan which in all honesty you're probably not really entitled too (cause your friend got you into it), and you think you deserve what others are getting and have paid for.

Let me roll out the big wheel of cheese.

but in the end of August is also the end of the promo 30 $/6 gig.

...

Anyway, I call Rogers earlier today and I need to call back tomorrow to speak with the " corporate hardware upgrade team " to see if they can do anythong for me.

I will write back after I did call.

My point is : If I would have wait one more years before switching to Rogers and stayed with Telus, (witch is not giving any money to Rogers since one years) I would have the Iphone right now in my hands and I would have paid only 200 $ for the 8 gigs or 300 for the 16 gigs...

well we will see tomorrow.

Be sure you tell that to Rogers when you call them. But, I think it's your monthly plan that is preventing you from getting more subsidy on your iPhone.

Beleive me I will tell them.

I know it is probably my monthly plan that is the cause.... Bue the fact remain that I could still get that plan now is I wasn't a Rogers customer.

When I switch form Telus to Rogers last years I called Telus before asking innocently for the procedure for switching to Rogers... and when ask why I wanted to switch I said it was beceause Rogers was offering me a better plan for less....

They ask me whats is the plan ?
I told them and they said that they have the exact same plan for less witch is almost true ( with Rogers I do not have acces fee to pay). Actually my wife has that plan with Telus. ANyway, I switch beceause I knew that if we ever get the Iphone, Rogers would get it and not Telus ( CDMA vs GSM).

So basically, the plan I have, anybody who is already a customer for 2-3 years can get it with their current provider if you know how to do it. You won't get it if you a are a new subscriber without contact.

I said that I have a 65 $ value plan beceause Rogers write on their bill every month : This month, you save 45.xx $... I don't thinf the plan actually worth 65 $ considering my wife pay 28 $ a month for the same plan on Telus, not on any corporate plan.

So well.... we will see when I will call.

It sounds like you're getting a pretty good deal per month... and by pretty good I mean really good. My first Rogers bill was like $104 (including activation fee). I'm on that special iPhone plan - the one where you get 6GB a month of data. If you could stay on that "cheap" plan long term it might be worth paying the extra money for the phone, but $500 for the 8GB phone is a lot... I don't think I would buy one in your situation. Just keep your plan, and wait until 2009 is what I would suggest.

A lot of people get screwed when they try to upgrade. Some Asian kids waited in line behind me to get their phones on the second shipment, and after waiting for 6.5 hours they were told that they could not upgrade to the iPhone even though (I assume) they believed they could. I'm not sure what to tell you, but I think it's safe to say that Rogers is like all other telecom companies - in that they're bastards.

Well actually, Iphone upgrade can only be done through Rogers... by calling them, not in any Rogers store.. Well in fact, if you go in a Rogers store, they will call for you and then pass the phone to you.

Infinitygraphix: So what ever happened with your situation?

Well, exactly what's written here... Paid 399 $ for the phone fora « new » 3 years contract.

However, this time, I will be upgrade eligible by August this year (I skip the iPhone 3GS) so I should be able to get the iPhone « 4G » at the best price possible.
