And really want to hold off on getting a new phone until the new SE is released.

my brother has a windows phone running the very last version of Windows Phone software. He’s willing to ship it to me if I want it.

What will I be able to do and what won’t I be able to do with it?

To start. If he’s willing to give you a free phone to use, I’d accept. Will save you some money instead of buying a temporary device.

Now on to Windows phone. Windows phone is currently on life support as far as software and updates go. At the nd of the year even updates will be no more. Microsoft has mentioned this. The App Store is almost as bare as the BlackBerry 10 App Store. Web browsing, calls, messaging and some other basic tasks will work with no issues. I’m sure those will continue to work just fine.

Banking apps were an issue for me last time I checked. No officially YouTube app. Web browser version works but clunky.

Its a shame as I really liked the user interface, how smooth it was and the features of the phones (always nice cameras). Wonder if Microsoft will ever try the phone arena again..

If it's just for calls, text, playing stored music, and taking photos, then you'll be fine. HERE maps works pretty good, especially if you download the maps.

Anything else is hit or miss. Browser works, but is painfully slow. Email also works, but again, painfully slow. The app store is basically done for, you'll be lucky if you can actually download or update an app without an error message.

This is my experience on the Nokia Lumia 1520 and 520 which I still have. Played with the 1520 just several weeks ago.

thank you for the help guys. So for things like navigaction, messages, and email it should work just fine. That’s all I really use my phone for. oh, and podcasts too. I think I will accept it and try it out.

Email is kind of slow. Haven't tried podcasts.
