...................2007FPW :p

FYI to anyone else in the market for the Dell 20" widescreen, they're temporarily on sale for $367 with free ground shipping (but I had to pay $15 in sales tax). Overall, a good deal, about $100 off the regular price. What's weird is I can get Dell discounts through the company I work for, but if I got the monitor from the Employee Purchase site, I wouldn't get the sale price, so I bought it from the regular user store. Weird, huh?

Do have one quick question. The monitor webpage (with specs and all that) says shipping in 24 hours. My order status gives Wednesday the 28th as a ship date. For those of you who have bought Dell monitors before, which date is accurate? Thanks.

My past experience with Dell is that the date / time in your order status is the most accurate.... Sorry. :( Maybe I'll be wrong?

Bastards. It says "In Production" for the order status, but I know they're not custom building me a monitor....

Good bargain, but I think I'll stick with the ACD's.
Why? The Dell's are cheaper, internally are nearly identical to the ACDs (same panel). They have more features. They have more connectors. And they come with a 3 year warranty.

I love Macs and everything else Apple's made (well, except the iPod Hifi :D), but they lose when it comes to displays.

That is if you like looking at ugly plastic all day compared to sculpted aluminum...or if you want FireWire Ports...

The Dells are definitely a good deal, but they definitely do not look as nice ad the ACD. I know that is not of any importance to some, but its worth it to me, personally. ;)

Pluse, Michael Dell is one of the last people I want to be putting up in a mansion.

Dell seems to do a large number of running changes, even to things like monitors. And I think there is backup when that happens. I know the monitors have edition codes like the handhelds and so on. A01, A02, etc. Probably mostly cost reduction / continuous improvement. You might just have caught a bad time when stock went down as a result. :(

No, not as nice as an ACD, but I'm a college student on a budget.

No use for Firewire, haven't used it since I got my new iPod.

And, I somehow doubt my $360 is going to buy Michael Dell a whole lot. :p

I don't mind waiting if I'm getting a newer, better revision. I just wish they wouldn't say "Ships in 24 hours on their site"

Anyone know where they ship from? I'm also worried the 4th of July will get in the way if it ships Wednesday, unless they ship from somewhere close to St. Louis.

I agree. Logically the Dell's are the better deal (more inputs, cheaper etc), but when it comes right down to it I just can't get away from that Brushed Aluminium. That's why I got two of em :p

You could buy 2 Dell 2007fpws for the price of one Apple 20" ACD  I don't think the aluminum is worth that much money. The only thing Dell does right nowadays are their monitors :p

I believe Dell ships from the HQ in Texas. From the two times we've ordered from them, I'm pretty sure it's been from Texas. So it will reach St. Louis before the 4th, hopefully.

You will want that newer better revision. If I remember correctly the 2007WFP had some issues with banding, which was fixed via firmware, but not completely last I heard.

Here is a long running thread on AT about the problem.

Just got the monitor today and I'm loving it.

No banding issues to report, the model number on the back says 2007FPWB so I guess that means it's a second revision with everything fixed. Sure, it's not as pretty as the ACDs, but it's cheaper, and I don't care that much about looks.

How is it? I have been hearing some seriously mixed reviews on the 2007fpw as compared to the 2005fpw.

And seeing as how Dell monitors are generally better than ACDs from a specs standpoint, I tend to agree. ;)

You really need to be an aluminium fiend to pay such a price difference.

Then what are you doing on an Apple forum?

I care about functionality. If Macs were as ugly as their PC counterparts, I'd still buy them because they work the way I want them to.

I've never seen a 2005 so I can't compare it, but I have no issues at all with this monitor. No dead pixels to report either...at least nothing that's catching my eye. There might be one dead pixel somewhere among the 1,764,000 pixels, but if there is, I'm sure not seeing it.

I have a 2005FPW that I really like and would like another to be used either as a dual setup or in my other house. I just can't get into dropping another $370 when I have a lot of things I want to buy for my new MacBook.

Depends, mine shipped from Nashville on 6/24. I ordered on 6/23 and should have received it today, but UPS is requiring a signature. They didn't drop it off today. Jerko's. Oh well, I guess I will need to get home early tomorrow.

Mine shipped from Nashville yesterday, and despite me paying for 5 day ground, showed up today. So glad I didn't pay for overnight like I originally intended...wouldn't have gotten here any quicker.....well, maybe earlier in the day, but I would've been at work, so it wouldn't have mattered.

Mine had some weird tracking though:

EARTH CITY, MO, US 06/27/2006 4:14 P.M. DELIVERY
06/27/2006 2:59 A.M. ARRIVAL SCAN
NASHVILLE, TN, US 06/26/2006 10:20 P.M. DEPARTURE SCAN
06/26/2006 8:37 P.M. ORIGIN SCAN

Notice no "Out for delivery" scan (it was there, then dissapeared) and the really short time between Nashville and Earth City (St. Louis). I almost have to wonder if it somehow wound up on a plane.

I might be working for dell soon (I actually hope I do. It's a great paying job) and I personally want to buy one bad ass LCD screen from them. You got one good deal.

Congrats! Glad you got something you like.

Dont pay attention to the ACD vs DELL crap. Age old battle. Buy what YOU like, and enjoy. Let others buy what they want.

Ordered a 2007WFP on the 26th, shipped on the 27th, scheduled delivery for the 28th, and this is with, as other people said, the free 5-8 day shipping.

Will report back.
