I just sold my macbook white 2007 laptop for 530. and bought a new mini at the apple store to replace it. What sold me and what always sold me on the 10 mini's is the hdmi output. Since I bought a macbook air. This mini will do 3 things:

1) Bittorrent server.
2) PLEX Video media server
3) Itunes and other gadgets sync.

I hear rumors of this core i5 or core i3 possibility on the new mini. I say "meh". this mini is good enough. the only thing I'm mad is:

I'm kinda mad that I didn't check the website to get the refurbish version at the apple store. I would of saved a 100 dollars. But then again, it would be a hassle to get my corporate discount on the apple website.

If i could go back i would so i can order but oh well.

The 2010 minis are good machines, even with "only" a Core 2 Duo in it. That chip is more than fast enough for what you're going to do with it.

You've got a good little machine there, they may just be core 2 duo but for what you need it'll be more than enough.

Remember you can upgrade the RAM and Hard disc later on to speed it up too :)

surprisingly,

It's slower than my macbook air. that's probably because its doing some heavy indexing now and it's taking up half my processes. And also because my MBA has a SSD.

alway my macbook white setup was a 4gig ram 7200 rpm setup, i'm going to a 2gig ram 5400 setup and things do feel a bit slower...but i just need to buy the upgrades.

The biggest disapointment for me is the hdmi. I hooked it up to my tv which took ALOT OF TIME, it wouldn't detect my display (i only have a 720p TV) and it over scaned the screen. I had to remote log in through my macbook air and go to displays so i can change the resolution, it seems if a certain resolution is compatible, the scene will just stay black. When i got it to work, the text don't come out as crisp as my monitor.

I'm using it for plex and other things, but i might have to change up my whole theatre setup so i have a monitor next to my tv for easity switching. Also, browsing the web from the comfort of my couch is not the same. I think i would rather browse on an ipad.

I love the little machine but it makes me wonder if I asked too much out of this guy and should of just gotten one primary laptop.

You could always get a SSD for the Mac Mini if you wanted it to be as fast as your MBA. However that would limit you in space quite a lot :( A 7200RPM drive is a possibility though, since power consumption isn't much of an issue :)

BTW: Do you travel a lot?
