I just thought I would let you all know to keep checking on there for deals. I just bought mine for $1740.00 with overnight shipping included. It is the base model but it is a great deal because it is cheaper than I could buy it from Apple and I don't have to pay any sales tax. I can't wait to use it. But unfortunately I am in Bulgaria until March 9th so it will just be sitting at home waiting for me. I hope it is a pleasure to use in my lap on the couch and doesn't burn my legs like my MacBook does.

:D

Wow! Brave man! I buy & sell on ebay all the time... but that's a lot of money to "risk" , IMO. Needless to say I don't make big purchases through ebay.

I got mine with my girlfriends student discount, and she wasn't even there! No ID or anything.

haha.. Yes I know that. But I live in New York.. And the sales tax on that would be $140.00. So it would have cost me $1,839.00 So that is why I didn't do it that way. Tax is a big added cost when purchasing through apple.

lol, that's the reason the gov't is trying to impose federal sales tax for online sales.

one more loophole (ordering from out of state) that won't be along much longer.

According to their policy, apple does audits, and if you are found to have used a discount that you were not entitled to , your card on file will be charged the difference.

I wouldn't use the education discount since I am not eligible for it and I don't want to abuse it for students that actually need it. I have purchased all of my Sony Viao's on Ebay and have had no problems with the transactions. I guess it is important to check the sellers feedback and to use Paypal or a credit card. I use Paypal with my credit card so that I am protected if there is a problem.

How would they know you were not affiliated with the school?

Apple should just require a school email to buy a laptop....

I don't think that would work because some schools give Alumni e-mail addresses with the school domain that will forward to their personal e-mail. Would be great though because then I could get the discount too!
