i just copied a blank drive to my full drive - Can I recover the data ?

Just ran carbon copy cloner to clone my studio drive (2 years worth of samples) to my new 2TB drive and ran it the wrong way so just deleted effectively my drive - Any program to recover the data for my Mac - I cant believe I just did that - I am a first class idiot
 
Just trying Stellar Phoenix Mac Data Recovery first then if that fails I will try your recommendation - ta
 
That's terrible! :eek: I have always been so paranoid about doing the same thing when cloning a drive. I hope you can retrieve your data. Was the data still on the drive you returned to Amazon? Could you contact them and arrange to get the drive back?
 
One more suggestion: Disk Drill by Clever Files. It has helped me recover hundreds of files. It's not free though. Best of luck...
 
Doesn't sound good. An image operation takes out a lot of the data as it goes, and makes it irrecoverable.

well a full 2tb drive and and empty 2tb drive .


you copied the empty one onto the full one.

that means you copied about 1gb or less onto a 2tb fusl drive so 99 percent of the info should be there. also this should have been a 1 minute mistake. since the new drive is almost empty. this should be almost fully recoverable.

Or I am not understanding what you did.

Unless Carbon Copy Cloner did a block copy. In which case it overwrote the old drive with all the empty blocks from the new drive.

Cloning programs will try to usually make the destination drive exactly match the source, which means matching all the empty blocks too.

AFAIK, Carbon Copy Cloner works on live drives, means it copies files one by one and it should've only screwed up the partition table.
 
Well I'm using stella mac recovery and it's churning away - Recovered 50 gig so far after several hours so at least another 6-10 hours I reckon

You're 1/2 right. If CCC is running against live drives, then it does a file copy.
If CCC can un-mount the drives, then it can do a block-copy.

To the original poster, good luck with the recovery process.
