It is freakin' AWESOME!

I've been a windows user for 15 years and this is my first Mac. Wow! First thing I noticed: No wires! Ahhhh! It is so nice not to have wires everywhere. VGA cable, keyboard, mouse, speakers, etc. One cable on this baby. The power cable.

The next thing: The screen. Oh. My. God. My Samsung 22 inch LCD looks like an old green CRT next to this! When I booted for the first time (about an hour ago) I was really impressed.

Still getting used to the Mac interface (and probably will be for some time) but so far it's great. I have to install Windows 7 via bootcamp soon but, for now, I just want to enjoy this!

Oh, and so far, no yellow, no whistling sound, no crunching noise. Keeping my fingers crossed but looks like I've got a keeper!

Ok, back to exploring my new iMac!

That's how i felt when i got my first mac and once i went behind my old desktop pc, so much cords!

I too recently got a 21.5" model. I must say, they're fabulous. I'm not a fan of the 27's... I think there is such a thing as 'too big'.

I'm thinking about getting my mother to by a 21.5. I personally would love a 27" because i've got a 27.5" LCD on my Mac right now that doesn't have the higher resolution of the 27" iMac.

The iMacs are such clean setups I hope my mother is keen on getting one since she's primarily computed on PC.

You know I was thinking the same thing except for my parents anniversary. They have had the same PC since 2002 (HP I believe) and it's so SLOW! I am sure I will have to buy her a iMac for dummies book but as all of you know you can pick up the basics relatively quickly.

Me too! 15 years PC user, first iMac, absolutely stunning.

Have you tested your iMac for that ringing/whistling noise when you turn the brightness down to say..70-80%? I'm wondering because mine makes this excruciating high pitched ringing that makes my ears bleed. No point in replacing it if all of them have this problem.

Hey gang...

Thanks for the comments so far. So, good news and bad news. The bad:

My 21.5 inch iMac developed a bad case of the yellow screen issue. No noise or hard drive problems just the yellow. I took it back and they replaced it without even looking at it. The next one I took home and...it had the same problem but worse! At this point I'm really bummed. Went back in to meet with the Genius. I was VERY nice about it but explained that I did not want to have to keep doing this. He turned it on and noticed the yellow stripe on the bottom immediately. I was worried it was going to be a case of "gee sir, I don't see it" or "sorry sir, that's just the way they are". I could tell he had seen this before and was annoyed with Apple for having to deal with this so often. He just had the attitude like "been here, done this". I mentioned that Apple has acknowledged the problem in the 27 inch and has also officially announced that it had been fixed in this model. I asked for an upgrade to the 27 inch as the 21.5 inch seemed to be the problem child now. After the genius had some back and forth with the manager she (the manager) came over to me, apologized for my trouble and...

The good news:

They upgraded me to a 27 inch free of charge for my troubles! And this one is BEAUTIFUL! So far, no noise problems and no yellow!

So, I went from happy to sad to VERY happy! I gotta hand it to Apple customer support.

My tip: Be nice! I've noticed that they are far more willing to help you out if you're not a dick. I just smiled and joked with them but let them know how frustrated I was and they understood.

Every time I turn this thing on I'm amazed! My HP laptop with the 17 inch glossy screen looks positively nasty next to this iMac!

Also, after a little bit of fiddling, Windows 7 is running like a charm via Bootcamp too. I can't say enough.

Another thing...coming from Windows this is totally refreshing. I love the magic mouse! Once you get used to it an old scroll wheel mouse feels clumsy and archaic. That's just my opinion. Even the keyboard, after getting used to it, is great! And, I know some people don't care about this but this iMac look awesome from behind too! Love the rounded aluminum look. Very clean and modern.

Now comes the fun of migrating software and files over.

It is really a fantastic deal for you, congrats!

But it is an interesting business model for Apple. Wow.

I switched over to the 21.5 iMac in February and couldn't be happier. I've had no issues at all with it. Quiet as a mouse and the screen is perfect. Windows through Bootcamp is now the closest I'll get to the PC world from here on in. Switched my daughter to a Macbook when her pc laptop became too problematic to deal with anymore (less then two years old) and she's actually developed an interest in computers beyond the internet and MSN now. Bundled programs are great and actually useful.
Congratulations on your amazing deal, the 27" is absolutely amazing. Wish I had the desk space for it.
