so I'm going off to college soon and I'm in need of a laptop. ran into a guy willing to trade his Mac OS x 10.11 4GB ram 500 GB for my Apple Watch Series 4. Does this sound like a good idea to anyone?

Get the "About this Mac" info. You don't list which Macbook model year it is or what CPU it has. There's a big difference in models which can run 10.11.

Go to your college website and see if you can get any sort of info on what your requirements are... "Things to Know for Incoming Freshmen"...

Does your college prefer certain apps, or have deals on hardware? Always good to know what you REALLY need.
