I just ordered a 32GB iPhone 3GS from Apple UK and want to unlock it, but how?

I just ordered an iPhone 3GS 32GB form Apple UK, it comes on an "O2 pay as you go" deal.
However, I already have a Vodafone UK contract and want to use that instead.

I just want to unlock the phone, and not jailbreak it.

As I've just ordered the phone I have no idea what OS it will be running but I imagine OS 3.0, if not 3.1

I am aware that little or no unlocks exist for 3.1 at the minute, but for the minute lets just say its on 3.0

What software do I need to use? Pwnage tool, ultrasn0w, redsn0w, yell0wsnow? Or, this website that I found, it claims to be able to unlock 3.1 and seems pretty genuine http://www.iphoneunlockuk.com/?gclid=COOsnfGe9pwCFU1_3godWV8vbQ does anybody have any prior experience with this website?

If is NOT on 3.1 then have a look at this website : http://www.iclarified.com/tutorials/iphone/index.php. If it is on 3.1 when you will just have to wait for details to be posted here : http://blog.iphone-dev.org/

I've checked the dev team blog alot and its very unclear to me :/
I did ring up the support line of the website I mentioned in the original post and somebody answered the phone so i'm guessing its all above board and they claim they can unlock 3.1

All unlock methods are freely available on the internet. I wouldn't trust any company offering to do it for a price as there currently isn't an unlock available for 3.1

Your best bet is to keep checking the dev team website or these forums to see when a 3.1 unlock is released.

Unfortunately if you just bought an iPhone 3GS, it will be loaded with OS 3.1 which is not jailbreakable or unlockable, it may never be. Also, you need to first jailbreak so that you can potentially unlock.

You are mixing up all sorts of software as they all perform different functions. The "best" one I'd recommend for people is redsn0w. It's simple and easy to jailbreak with. If you then wanted to unlock, you would then use ultrasn0w. Unfortunately as I said above, if you just bought one and are waiting for delivery, there's a real good chance it has OS 3.1 loaded on it.

I would also stay away from websites claiming to be able to jailbreak/unlock for you, they are most defintely not geniune. If the Dev Team says it can't be done, it can't be done. They are working on it but at the present, it's not possible to jailbreak 3.1 (tho they know it's is possible to do so in the future) and the baseband in 3.1 cannot be unlocked at all from what they can tell.
