i recently picked one up for $200 including dock/case from a friend who wants the new video ipods. i was wondering if i could use my ipod as a transfer tool, a la Flash drive? can i put different file types in my ipod and use it in that way? if i can, what are the pros/cons? i'm new to ipods so any help would be great. also, if there's a website to answer these questions, point me in that direction. thanks.

The one con I've heard of it is that the hard drive in an iPod wasn't created to be used in this manner frequently and some think that it can cause harm to it over time.

Like Flowbee said, you can use it as an external drive without problems. However, if it is formatted for Macintosh you won't be able to use it to transfer data onto a PC. If it is formatted for PC then you can use it on both PC and Mac. If it came with the firewire cable, try to use that rather than USB2, because when transferring large quantities of data (eg, gigabytes) firewire is much faster (USB2 is faster for small amounts).shoxproject said:
