I just switched! And a question

I just switched to android, and oh my god, its so awesome! I can't believe how far behind ios has fallen. It is slightly less intuitive than iOS, but I think that's because it does so much more than iOS. Overall, I love it.

But I have a couple of questions.

1. On the play store I was downloading an app and my cell signal cut out for a few seconds. Now that app's page is stuck at saying "installing", and any other apps I try to DL just stop at "download pending". How do I fix this?

2. How do I undo? I googled and the results said something about tapping an undo arrow, but I don't see it on my screen. How do I undo?

3. How do I scroll to the top or bottom of a page?

If you're using the Gboard, you can delete by swiping left from the backspace key, which will highlight a certain amount of text you can control, and once you let go, it'll delete the highlighted text. Then, what has been deleted will be in the suggestion bar. That's sort of an undo for text editing. Can you give more context?

3) Flick. There's no way to auto-jump to the top like on iOS. Luckily, the scrolling is faster in Android.

Wait, how do you jump to the bottom of a page on iOS?

Once you get used to the scrolling on Android, you may find it difficult to scroll on iOS. I much prefer scrolling via Android. The jump-to-top feature is really useful, though.

You can't jump to bottom, but you can jump to top. But I thought that with android being an OS that clearly does more than iOS, I naturally assumed it'd do at least as much as iOS does on a basic function like page navigation. Oh well.

OK..I'll be that guy..I don't think I'd think that Android is awesome if it didn't resume downloading an app after losing signal, I think I'd be a whole lotta pissed since my computer has been able to do that for more than two decades.

I hear where you're coming from, but I don't think that's a fair judgement. I believe it does normally resume downloads, it just encountered a bug, and believe me, I've encountered a lot of bugs in iOS.

1). Seem to have fixed that. In similar circumstances, I'm usually able to cancel the install for that app and restart but, whatever---it's fixed for you.

2). I'm guessing you mean something similar to the shake to undo functionality on iOS--nothing on Android that I'm aware of.

3). As mentioned, nothing like this on Android. And I think Apple has a patent for this and thus why it's not available on Android. I love it as well---wouldn't trade it for the often faster scrolling in Android. I wish Apple would actually add a top to bottom as well.

I've been playing with it all day and its speedily executed every task and app I've tried so far. Other than specs, what actual usage improvement would I see with a higher end phone? The only thing I miss so far hardware-wise is a fingerprint scanner to unlock.

If it happens again, go into your application manager and force stop the play store. A shortcut to the Play Store entry in the application manager is to long-press on the Play Store in the app drawer and drag up to the App Info item, some launchers allow you to do this from the home screen.

What iPhone did you have before it? The OnePlus 3T is a very good phone for under £500/$500.

Yup, and I got it for 20 bucks new from T-mobile. And the only hardware limitations I've noticed are no fingerprint scanner, webpages sometimes having to reload due to limited ram, and a just okay camera. Other than that this phone seems to perfectly and quickly do everything I ask it to do. For me, paying 500 dollars for a phone seems ludicrous when this 20 dollar phone does 95% of what I want a phone to do.

Previously I had an iphone 5s, and when that died a few months ago I fell back to an old 4s.

That's a good question. I'd need to see your phone.

Generally the quality of the cameras on the flagships are incredibly better. The thing is, coming from IPhones as you and I do, honestly other than the camera, and extra screen real estate, I never noticed any real difference between an iPhone 5S running the software that it was released with and my super expensive IPhone 7Plus running the version of iOS it was released with. Oh I know every year they add stronger and better hardware to increase data speeds and call quality and whatnot, but sad to say...in practical terms I never noticed a helluva lot of difference. My calls go through about the same as they always have. Speaker quality is probably better on my expensive phone. There is that much.

But Apple build quality is consistently good across price differences. Reliability is consistent. Performance is consistently good.

Where things start to fall apart is having an older iPhone run the latest version of iOS, then they slow down and the whole experience isn't as smooth.

Now compare the same form factor as the 5s, but with upgraded internals, namely the iPhone SE, to the almost $1000 flagship IPhone 7 Plus: There is hardly any difference at all between my $400-ish SE (that I paid around $200 for after trade in allowances and other discounts) and my 7Plus than the camera and speed. With speed, I'm a 50 year old woman not a cyborg so I barely notice the difference. Ask the millennials, they will notice but not me. The 7Plus is water resistant and dust resistant and that's awesome. But if you're on a tight budget, you're okay without it because Apple does not warrant against water damage if the water resistance fails, anyway.

With an Android, the difference between a lower priced phone and a higher priced one running the latest version of Android is different than what I was just talking about with iPhones. Different feel in build quality, speed, the cameras are really different in quality. Beyond that, I can't say without sitting down and comparing your phone to mine and going through step by step comparison.
