iPhone I keep getting an error trying to update to iOS6.. is it because I'm jailbroken now?

I have a jailbroken iphone 4s right now and every time I try and update to iOS6, I get an error after like 5 minutes of it downloading.

What steps do I need to take to get iOS6 without losing all of my stuff? Or is there no alternative?

The only way to update any installation of iOS when jailbroken is to preform a restore of the device.

so, I'll just lose my jailbroken apps?

What about my contacts and anything like that?

If you have backup in itunes or icloud you can get those back easily.
