Okay, I'm weird. I have a 128GB iPhone 6 without data on it. I use a cheap prepaid SIM because I rarely text or make phone calls. My iTunes library consist of 60GBs of music I didn't actually buy and when I went through it the other day, I deleted more than half because I don't really listen to it. Most of the time I listen to an FM radio station which basically plays the same pop songs every day - and I like it.
So, streaming music. I never gave it a real chance because I didn't have internet on my phone while on the move. That's when I want to listen to songs stored locally and FM radio proved to be unreliable. Spotify's free service doesn't include offline listening and I didn't feel like paying for Premium because my current solution worked fine and was free.
So naturally, when Apple Music launched, I wasn't that interested. I did start the free 3-month trial, but I immediately switched off the auto-renewal.
Today I switched it back on.
I travel more since this year so I wanted a better music solution than the old and illegal one I had before. It didn't feel right to love music, but still pirating it. I was thinking about buying the albums I listen to the most and just building a good music library. I could just sync the songs like I'm used to with my iPods.
But with iCloud Music Library and its ability to add every song available on iTunes, spending that kind of money wasn't necessary anymore. Paying about one album every month is a big step-up from what I do now (paying nothing), but I found Apple Music to be more than just my regular old way of listening to music. Finding new songs and artists via Radio, playlists and the "For You" tab is really interesting. It's also just way more convenient to find music while online (at home, or school) and just download it for offline use right on my phone.
Sure, it has its problems. Most of them solved itself after giving it some time (duplicates, album art mess, errors, etc.), and I'm sure others will too eventually. These kind of problems are exactly what I expected to be part of the streaming experience. Not just from Apple, but in general. It can never be as reliable as syncing downloaded songs from your computer to your phone via a cable, right? Maybe it should be though, it may very well get there someday. iCloud Photos wasn't problem free for me either, but it works fine now - couldn't do without it.
