Mac OS X is, in my opinion, the greatest operating system hands down. Nothing touches it. It's FreeBSD roots make it extremely stable - and its user friendliness just make it WOW.

However, alot of people seem to think all PCs are made by Dell and inferior to Macs.

I am typing this on a custom built PC (which just means personal computer), running Gentoo Linux. This is just as stable as a mac, albeit not as user friendly.

PCs are great - windows sucks, but PCs are great.

Windows DOES NOT MEAN PC

PC DOES NOT MEAN Windows

We know, you're kind of preaching to the choir here. Macs in fact are PCs too if you're going to take the term literally. I don't think there's any confusion here.

I don't understand how this belongs under the "MacBook" section.

I still dislike PCs. I'd rather cozy up to Windows on a Mac than have a PC computer.

I agree with him about the part how all macs are PC's. It upsets me how people misuse that term. Macs are PERSONAL COMPUTERS.

And yeah, we know, but guess who propagated the idea that the two are distinct? Apple.

It was more IBM with the branded-as-such IBM PC. Up to that point, PC was just the geek's way of referring to them. Most of us just said we had a computer, desktop computer, or by brand: Apple, Kaypro, Osborne, Heath, whatever (even though I owned one, we would never actually admit to a TRS-80. TI-99/4's were OK--for a while, anyway). The real gearheads among us used to say cool stuff like, "I just breadboarded my CP/M box over the weekend, dude!"

The Macintosh was really the first significant PC that used consumer-oriented naming (not counting the Lisa here) as part of its brand identification. Most of the others were alphanumeric soup, along the lines of power tools or industrial machinery.

Its rare for me to actually want to swear at someone - but today.......

I can't be bothered - I only hope the OP is not so pratronizing to his real world peers. (Yes it is spelt incorrectly deliberately)

Threads like this are fine. They're expected to stay civil.

However, we do ask that you post them in a reasonable forum. Preferably this one (Apple, Industry, and Internet Discussion). I mean posting about a custom built Gentoo box in the Macbook/iBook forum is kind of silly, as I'm assuming you didn't custom build a notebook, and a tower PC is not exactly a compelling alternative to a notebook for portability.

I have a Vaio and love it most of the time, but still wanting my new macbook :)

Yeah, I love my Macbook, its a great machine . I'm just saying when people act like Macs are the only way to not use Windows, that is totally false.
