I love my iPad, but a couple things drives me nuts...

First... The ****ing notification system. Honestly what the **** is Apple thinking? A popup dialog box that completely and utterly interrupts whatever you're doing until you dismiss it? When someone is sending you a stream of instant messages, this gets furiating fast. Seriously, with all their expertise in usability, THIS one gets past the designers? There just got to be a better way. Notifications on the titlebar or something that doesn't interrupt you so completely!

And second, why couldn't anyone hurry up and release a GOOD instant messaging client? Seriously AIM is pretty good at first glance... But then you run into some truly retarded design choices that reminds you that AOL is still the same craptastic company. Let me name a couple: the fact that you cannot select and copy the text in the instant messages you receive or send. Seriously? And the crapatastic "web browser" that is bought up if you tap a link in an inatnt message? It's slow, unresponsive, and more often or not glitches the app when you close it and return to the instant messaging portion, forcing you to close and reopen the app. Just keep it ****ing simple and let me open the links in Safari!

Jesus. End of rant.

Which if it did open link in safari would close the AOL program regardless as it can not multitask at the moment.
 
Beejive should be launched for iPad soon.

I know that would be my first choice; love it on the iPhone. ;)

Totally agree that the iPhone OS notifications are crappy. The way WebOS or Android do it is a million times better. Little icons collect at the top or bottom of the screen until you need to deal with them. So much more unobtrusive, and if you close a notification on iPhone OS it is gone. if you get two in quick succession the first one is gone. This is the biggest gripe I have about iPhone OS and what is stopping me from moving to iPhone (that and no notification LED).

actually. i tot iphone notification was cool. i neednt run the program in the background and yet it still notifies me.
whenever someone needs to message me like an sms(whatsapp), or the news app notifies me of some news-breaking headline.
or reminders. i mean this is like way cooler than having a sluggish phone that requires me to run all the program i want in the background.

but i do share ur frustration that it interrupts me when im playing a game.
but the importance of the notification warrants me to stop whatever im doing, else i wld have jus missed it.
 
Wow, overreaction... The little box pops up, you hit close and it's gone. That's it. Done. Continue. If a certain app is bugging you, don't let it notify. The idea of notifications elsewhere like on the status bar simply doesn't work. Would you see it when running Safari? Yes. Would you see it when running a full screen game like Real Racing? No. Current notifications are seen no matter what you're doing. They work no matter what app you are using, they don't force you to quit, they are extremely easy to quickly dismiss, and OS 4.0 will improve them.
 
Turn off the pop ups. Keep the sound and badge notifications on. Now it's exactly like the way blackberry does their notifications.

That's what I do on the iPhone. But that's not very helpful on the iPad because it doesn't vibrate so I couldn't know when I'm getting a, say, instant message.
 
I can see it now: Sanitariums full of residents who were driven nuts by some "feature" of an iPad. Very Orwellian! Let's chalk it up to an evil plan by Steve Jobs to rule the world (or at least whomever is left). :D
