I love my new —used— iPad Pro 11” (3rd generation)— just bought it two days ago off Facebook Marketplace. I’m familiar with so many of the prevailing negative narratives from members of this community— I too have felt that way before—- but not with this current iteration and all of the advancements iPadOS has made in recent years.

I’ve had iPads in the past but struggled with where they would fit in my life, resulting in me giving them away to family. I went 3-4 years without having an iPad, but recently became interested in it again.

Here are a few reasons why I love my iPad:

1.Widgets: With my previous iPads which I had years ago, they just felt like oversized iPhones. But, something clicked recently when I was setting up my new iPad Pro: iPad absolutely shines when the Home Screen is full of widgets rather than static apps. I don’t think this was a feature when I last had an iPad but this is a complete game changer and offers such a refreshing and unique experience that you cannot really replicate on any other Apple device-- maybe MacOS Sonoma?

2.Mouse & Keyboard Support: I know external keyboard support is not new, but mouse support is awesome, and in combination, really turns my iPad into a device that can handle about 90% of the things I do on my laptop. I’m not a power user so I know there are people out there who would not be able to get by with an iPad as their primary device— but if I really had to, I could do it—but I'm not lol.

3. Universal Control: This is the coolest feature. I have a 13” M2 Air that is always connected to an external 24” 4K display. Placing the iPad on my desk and being able to control all my devices with one mouse and keyboard is insanely cool. It just feels like such a natural extension of my workstation— especially with the widgets on display. Just incredibly neat.

So, long story short. I know there are people who wish iPad could do more such as run MacOS, run desktop class apps, etc. but this thing is really great. I am not diminishing or challenging those complaints, I just wanted to add a positive opinion because I see so few these days.

Thanks!

It's similar to the way I use my Macbook: multiple smaller windows all open at once to keep an eye on various things. It doesn't beat having actual windows, and they obviously go away when I use the iPad for anything, but just having it set up as a big dashboard is definitely a step up and even sometimes saves me from having to open apps. Now I'm just waiting for iOS 17 for the lockscreen overhaul...

Yes, iPadOS has come a long way since you last checked in! ;) I even find that my mini 6 plugged into my Thunderbolt monitor/dock fills in really well as a quick desktop computer when I need it to fill in for a MacBook for a few minutes.
