I was hoping that the M1 and Apple's Silicon in general would pave the way for Apple to make a truly thin and light MacBook line (11" or 12" that is razor thin and light with a width no wider than the keyboard), but this time, with no hit in performance and no overheating issues. Ironically, they went in the opposite direction with the MacBook Pros with thicker machines, but with full throttle performance (which is also great). They probably don't want to make a small, thin and light MacBook because it would cut into the iPad Pros (to me, these are not interchangeable).
And based on the leaks of the upcoming MacBook Airs, they will be a hard pass for me (happy-fun colors, white keyboard, white bezels, same display size). These are just rumors of course, but if true, Apple is truly cutting the middle-ground users out of their market and is becoming very either/or. The current 13" Air and 13" MacBook Pro don't count. I'd love to see a 15" Air option or other display sizes.
There should be a super thin and light - king of ultra-portable 'MacBook' line with black bezels, in Space Grey, Silver, Space Black, and a MacBook Air line with multiple (larger) display options, and of course, the current MacBook Pro line. They've got the chips to make pretty much anything they want, fans or not.
