Love my new 14" and 16" M1 Pros but my goodness it wasn't until I took my M1 Air to work yesterday after not using it the past few weeks, I realized how much I love how lightweight and more portable the Air/M1 Pro is. I will still continue to use my 14" and 16" more often though. I am a Speech-Language Pathologist in the nursing homes and I can carry the Air easily from room to room without much fear of it accidentally slipping out of my hands and dropping it. Using the 16" at a desk though is an amazing experience. Anyone else miss the weight and smaller size sometimes?

I have an old (2014) 11" Macbook Air, a 2018 13" Macbook Pro, and a 2020 Macbook Air. When I travel, I still like the smaller 11" Macbook Air. If the 2021 M1 Macbook Air is as light or lighter than my old 11" Macbook Air, then I suppose it would be my favorite laptop for travel. Most of my "travel" is a 1 hour train ride followed by a 6-10 hour walk in the city (San Francisco). I use the laptop during rest stops.

I was hoping that the M1 and Apple's Silicon in general would pave the way for Apple to make a truly thin and light MacBook line (11" or 12" that is razor thin and light with a width no wider than the keyboard), but this time, with no hit in performance and no overheating issues. Ironically, they went in the opposite direction with the MacBook Pros with thicker machines, but with full throttle performance (which is also great). They probably don't want to make a small, thin and light MacBook because it would cut into the iPad Pros (to me, these are not interchangeable).

And based on the leaks of the upcoming MacBook Airs, they will be a hard pass for me (happy-fun colors, white keyboard, white bezels, same display size). These are just rumors of course, but if true, Apple is truly cutting the middle-ground users out of their market and is becoming very either/or. The current 13" Air and 13" MacBook Pro don't count. I'd love to see a 15" Air option or other display sizes.

There should be a super thin and light - king of ultra-portable 'MacBook' line with black bezels, in Space Grey, Silver, Space Black, and a MacBook Air line with multiple (larger) display options, and of course, the current MacBook Pro line. They've got the chips to make pretty much anything they want, fans or not.

I wouldn't sweat it. Apple will probably make a "pro" version of the rumored new MacBook Air design & you'll love it.
