So I bought that MacBook Pro for $1299 at my school special, and I'm so excited with this system. I do have to do the battery recall thing, but it seems like it should be no big deal at all. My question is, what should I do on this Mac? I've had one before, but it was a PowerMac G5. The ram is only 512mb, but it seems to be very speedy. I don't have many programs open at the same time-maybe that's why. So I got Audio Hijack which I have used before and Audacity. Is there a graphics program like Photoshop that I can use that is Universal?

Front Row is amazing. I'm really pleased with this system.

glad you like it! front row is great. but honestly i dont' use it THAT much haha.

its just 'nice' though..

not sure about the graphics programs but i'd love to know too!

if you are runnign them though i DEFINATELY recommend upgrading the ram

i went form 512 - 1.25 ram ..definately DEFINATLEY noticeable

and i'm only running like firefox/ word/ excel/ itunes or wtvr at the same time..

it adds up (esp. since the vid card is shared)..

btw HOW do i know if the battery is being recalled? i can't seem to find a site or anything on apple etc.

Bookshop!
What should you do on it? Anything, and everything you want!

I think GimpShop is universal. I don't really know anything about it so i can't really tell you much.

I recommend you bump that RAM up, because before too long, it won't serve you too well. If it is just one 512MB stick, i reckon you should buy a gig stick. They don't cost much more than the 512MB sticks, and the performance boost is noticable.

Enjoi your new machine!

I know what you mean, with my MacBook I recieved it, opened it and set it up and then was quite confused about what to do next. Well I mainly use it for surfing the net and sound production, the latter being acheived on Reason 3.5, Logic Express 7.2 and Ablton 5.2. Though I possess previous knowledge, seeing as I've been doing it for some time now. Other features of my MacBook are just simple things like iCal, stickies and the dashboard, features that I now would struggle to make do without!

Umm... the MBP wasn't covered by the recall... it uses LiPoly battereries, not LiIon, let alone the select few LiIon batteries that were affected.

There is/was a recall or exchange rather for the 15 MBP batteries. Details here
