macworld 2009 sucked this year, and i think it was horrible. throughout the whole thing i was so disappointed.

sorry if i'm being the way i am, but i thought for sure new mac mini's would come out.

my mother's pc broke down, and i'm giving her my mac mini, and getting a new mac mini for myself. not only can we not do that, but nothing on the desktop side was even released, or upgraded.

so now i have no computer, because my mother needs it for work x_x.

i hope apple upgrades their stuff within the month.

You're acting like they discontinued the Mini and iMac. There are still there and the ones out are great machines. I'm bet your mom wouldn't even notice a difference between the ones out now and what will eventually replace it.

If apple's going to keep the same old tired hardware, they need to drop the price on the existing models.

Yes, I know there's a group of people dedicated to the machine, as they're is for the G4 cube.

Apple's pattern is to keep the same price points for machines and add new and/or updated features and/or hardware. The lack of updates for the mini states that they're either going to do it soon or that they'll quietly drop this model.

I was also sure that Apple was going to update something on the iMac, maybe a touch screen. The fact that freakin' GATEWAY introduced the next iMac with touch features, and Apple didn't, says that someone is asleep at the switch.

Right now sales of desktop systems are lagging, even for Apple. Unless Apple's planning on being a notebook only company in the next couple of years, they need to do either some updating or price cutting of the current models.

Seriously? The Mini is laughably horrible for it's price. It should be $399 for the 2-3 year old hardware it gives you.

I am sure Apple will upgrade soon....but as the above poster said, what is wrong with getting your Mom a current Mini? I have the current 1.86mhz and it does everything I ask of it which is a media center hooked to my 42" LG HDTV. It plays HD rips, all my music and opens every web page I have ever tried. Unless your Mom is a gamer, or encodes huge files, the new Mini when released will be over kill.

BTW...I am a Network Engineer w/CCNA & MCSE for an insurance agency. We have 100+ employees and there are maybe five people that the current Mini might not be powerful enough for.

But I do agree with the price point...The profit margin on the Mini has grown for Apple, yet they haven't passed any savings to the customer as Sony and MS have done with the PS3/Xbox 360.

Agreed. The price point is pretty offensive for the hardware you get. it should be $399.00 or less, otherwise keep the damn thing on an updated schedule.

The Mac Pro hit 365 days yesterday I think. Let's see if it goes to 512 again like it did last time.

I feel really bad for the Mac Mini users and prospective buyers.

Additionally, Fox News, Yahoo News, and CNET Tech News all reported this MacWorld as being a disappointment. :apple:

I was disappointed as well that the new Mac Mini was not announced yesterday. I'm willing to bet, in this economy, that a new Mac Mini would fly off the shelves. I know I'm looking to get one to replace my aging G5 Power Mac.

Join the club, yeah it sucks but there's plenty of good machines available. You can get a 24" 2.4GHz iMac refurb for $1299 which should be a real nice upgrade for you for the price.

Um, I don't think so. 2GB of 667MHz memory? A 19" (orange-peel) display? A mobile ATI graphics card? External power brick? Windows Vista?? :D :D Sorry but the Gateway One is to the iMac what the Samsung Instinct is to the iPhone. :D Yes the iMacs are starting to get a little long in the tooth, but they're not hardcore outdated yet. Rest assured, OP, the new iMacs will be out SOON. Patience, patience.

I like your diplomacy but a lack of an upgrade IS very disappointing to many of us. There are many users who feel the current lineup is becoming very long in the tooth. This sounds like Apple's old days when everything was so moldy it was pathetic.

God, I hope Apple has sense enough not to release poor successors to the Mini and iMac.

Not to mention closing the Apple Gaping Lineup Hole. We will commonly refer to this lineup debacle as the AGLH.
:D

With the terms of Apple's suit against them calling for the company to forcibly recall all shipped computers, I wouldn't buy one if I were you.

Well I guess the next option is to build one myself. Or wait for how long? For something that's most likely going to be outdated and overpriced by the time it's released? Maybe I'll start looking into Linux.

Apple should go back to Apple Computer Corp.

Lets hope Apple doesn't add touch features to the iMac. Who would want greasy finger prints all over their monitor and the ergonomics of having your arms raised and extended for any length of time would be very uncomfortable to say the least. Also Gateway doesn't make an iMac, they may make an all-in-one unit but definitely not an iMac.

They cannot get the computer back from the consumers in a civil trial, all they can do is make the request for a recall.

Even then, there are consumers who never comply even if they offer all your money back.

Doubtful even in a criminal trial they'd be able to take the machines away, since it isn't a drug distribution network.

---

About all you'd get is a recall, with a termination of all service/warranties at the end of it. So an unsupported machine is all you risk.

I thought this thread was going to be about drinking too much.

Which is what many of us did yesterday after MacWorld.

the mac mini's prices are indeed laughable.

have any of you seen the refurbished price of mac mini's?

they are god awful! maybe 50 dollars below the original price.

i mean, the low end doesn't even come with dvd burning capability, seriously, how old is that technology?

If Apple wanted to be really, really nasty they could do an RIAA on anybody who bought a computer together with a copy of MacOS X. "Pay as $3000 or meet us in court", since every time you make an illegal copy of MacOS X, like by starting up a Psystar computer with MacOS X installed, you are committing copyright infringement. And since Apple surely wants to leave a smoking crater in the place where Psystar is right now, that is not completely impossible.

Oh, no, my friend...

Apple doesn't want a smoking crater...

Apple wants a physical Apple Store where Psystar used to be...

Apple wants... NO record... of Psystar ever existing...

They want a clean cover-up... silent... precise...

Six months after the trial goes in Apple's favor, people will be saying, "Psystar, who?"

the current mini a great machine? you have to be kidding me. paying high prices for really outdated tech is not what i call a great machine

Or build a system and boot to OS-X using EFI-X. I am leaning in that direction although I don't know if 10.6 will break anything.

to those who think the gma 950 is a graphic card capable of delivering good gaming to modern games...

i scoff.

Thank god. I thought I was the only one. Imagine my disappointment when it was anger over MacWorld.

I was merely bummed.
